No. I don't really think it's necessary unless you have a drag car

I’ve got an all stock truck. I’ve gotten 4 oz of whatever it is in the catch can in 6000 miles since I’ve installed it. Kinda crazy but my oil level doesn’t seem to go down either

Mindy, do you have a catch can installed on your truck? If not you should get one. I run a Moroso catch can many run Billet. Here is a recent thread about a new one. Moroso also has a valve at bottom for easy draining. Billet has to be unscrewed and emptied.

Hey thats my thread!! I had a very similar model in my 2010 Camaro. The Team RXP "1LE" Catch Can and the Elite Engineering Catch Can were very popular in Camaro-land.

Other simple mods, mods that I have. Black gorilla lug nuts, I painted my exhaust tips black, plasti-dipped the whip antenna.

Defiantly the lugnuts!!! I almost forgot. Oems are ****. Gorillas in black or chrome only $50 for all 4 wheels...oems are tin 2 piece.

Regardless if it is a drag car or a daily driver, blow by is real and can lower your octane rating causing knock. It does add complexity under the hood though. Very little.

As ****** as pump gas is nowadays, I will always try to mitigate knock if I am keeping a vehicle long term. Running premium helps. Surprising manufacturers keep raising the compression on engines especially DI when fuel nowadays has very inconsistent ethanol mixtures mixed with god knows what fuel.

Catch cans are a point of contention here. Some swear by them, others say they're not necessary. My '09 has 120K on it and no catch can and no issues either.

As far as an "air scoop", are you looking for a Cold Air Intake (CAI)? I like the looks of the VaraRam myself, but haven't been able to justify the price as yet. Honestly, the stock box breathes through the fender, so technically it's a CAI, but some people want something more or different. I've heard of some people adding an addition pipe to the stock box and routing it to the grille. Not sure how much difference it makes.

If you are not running cats, a catch can will also aid that oil smog smell from the exhaust if you are experiencing that.

I already have a mopar cai. Trying to figure out if I can hook up an air scoop behind the grille to connect to the stock

Hey y’all. New here and interested in running a programmer on my truck. Last time I modded a car/truck it had a carb, and most everything was internal build and exhaust. Any cons? Top end rattle, seal issues etc.? I’m running a 2012 with the 5.7 Hemi.

Welcome! Diablo sport is what most run. If you buy from Matt at Moes performance you get hemifever custom tuning free. You can go with the new intune 3 or go with new trinity 2 which comes out next month. These are the newest tuners from them!

Oil air separator is better for a DD style car/truck where there are lots of high vacuum low load situations. I run one on my 14 and now my 18 CC. I also run one on my turbo LS firebird. Drag cars don’t see high vacuum situations, they see mostly high load low vacuum going down the track, except for closing the throttle and the return road. Drag cars work better with header EVAC or open crankcase breathers or if your real serious vacuum pumps.

Not sure about the mopar cold air intake but your could slap in a variaram which has its own scoop in front of the radiator. Instead of trying to design your own with limited space. You could also look in NHRA style brake ducting and the hood/fender scoops.

Besides gears and headers your basically done with bolt ons. Boost is your friend :) a rear mounted turbo would be wicked easy on these trucks and your wouldn’t need to replace all the exhaust components as the stock manifolds would be more than adequate.

I yank prob a 1/2 qt out of the oil catch can every 4000 miles or so on mine. Catch cans are usually 50% efficient so imagine sucking in 1 qt of oil every 8k miles. LS Motors are notorious for PCV systems gunking up the insides of the intakes, the runners and intake sides of the heads ( valves too). I’ve pulled many stock LS Truck intakes and all are covered in oil gunk on the inside. The heads always have buildup in the intake runners and on the back of the valve.
The cleaner the engine is always better!

Food for thought, 17k miles on 14 CC 5.7, diablo catch can starting at 250miles. Behind the TB blade u can still see the original finish, dry as a bone. I dump my catch can 2-3 times between an oil change and it’s full every time. Pics are worth a 1000 words. I highly recommend them!

A pedal commander will give you way better throttle response and the truck will feel faster. A programmer with a tune would be a good mod. We are running 20% OFF Pedal Commander right now!

When your ready for Headers let me know. we have great pricing on Stainless Works and Kooks.

PM me for forum discounts!

Is that 20% off the $299 bud ?

I’ve modded a lot of cars I’ve owned before buying my Ram and a lot of modifications boast incredible gains but it translates to nil at the wheels. With a N/A motor like the 5.7 the only real bolt on gains I’ve seen are from the long tube headers. Exhaust and intake do virtually nothing. Once you do FBO’s with a tune you will quickly hit a ceiling so if you really want power you will need forced induction with either a supercharger or a turbo kit.

I look at a modifications gains via 1/4 mile times and before/after dynos. Any other claims that can’t be substantiated on paper simply don’t add any power.
