Hello everyone,

I have a 2014 1500

Just another shock/strut question. Apparently my ram needs new struts and springs.. only 50,000 Miles on it but my right front one is leaking according to my Auto shop. I’m heading that the 5100 are the way to go, but what about springs? I’m not sure what springs are of quality and will last. I do some off-roading but 95% on the road. I’m looking for an upgrade with some value on both the strut and spring setup up. I’m tempted to level the truck with the 5100s but I don’t really need to and want to keep my CV angles good. If anything maybe I’d raise it an inch or less..? Any input is appreciated, and o have no idea on spring options or maybe a whole coilover setup would work or maybe some spring suggestions and how they would effect the vehicle.

Regards,

Frank

He probably has a 2500...
Check out thuren . They have good stuff. You should level the truck while you're at it.

I got the thuren overlander kit, 2inch level. New springs and shocks. World of difference on and off road.

What's wrong with the springs? Usually they don't crap out, should live a long time, unless they got damaged somehow.

I just opened this thread on my pc. My phone didn't show ur signature. He does have struts. Different from the 2500. Don't know much about those.

It's possible they've gone bad. My Titans factory struts went out within 20k miles.

Take a look at the Bilstein 6112 struts, they include new coils and are adjustable just like the 5100. They also have a lifetime warranty. There’s a couple threads in the lifted 4thgen forum.

I'd probably take a look at the Bilsteins too based on so many other people's recommendations. IMO U.S. shock mfgrs make a lousy 'replacement' product in terms of leaks and visual longevity. They might make a great OEM product ...when made to the car company's specs, but I've had so many leaks in short periods with replacement Monroe's and Gabriel's over the years -- and we're talking about regular street driving here. If you get a set that doesn't leak in a couple years, they tend to last a while though ....but they'll get embarrassingly rusty in one salty winter (shame on them!!). I know Advance Auto is good about taking returns even after a couple years.

Maybe the domestic shock mfgrs have upped their game in the last few years? What do you think, guys? I kinda quit buying them ...although I guess I lied, I bought a set of Monroe's this summer to replace a leaking pair of Monroe air shocks (began on the second year). Napa dd everything to put up road blocks and drag their feet to get out of replacing them and I even have a commercial account with NAPA -- screw them! You go to Advance with a bad shock, they look up and find your order, 'Boom' they hand you a replacement and don't make a big fuss over it. They're great like that. No, "we can't do this ...we can't do that" and make you feel like you're taking food out of their mouths over a faulty product. Ok, I've got to get off that rant..

How are the Bilstein aftermarket replacement shocks when it comes to holding up in salty, northern winters?

This topic is now all irrelevant. Apparently I was going to get scammed but a friend of mine knows a mechanic and he said there is nothing wrong with my truck at all… Ball joints that they told me to replace her fine, and I have no leaking shocks...
