Lites kill engine (Cummins)

2002 Dodge Ram 2500 w/5.9 Cummins.

A few weeks ago my headlights started shutting off my cruise control. Yesterday a new problem developed. The headlights (parking lites too) instantly shut off the engine when I put them on. I don't know if they are related but it's such a weird problem I don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

You have a short. Time to dig out a diagram and start tracing wiring.

I read in the owners manual that the Panic button causes the ECM to disable the motor. I remembered accidentally tripping the panic mode a few days before I noticed the trouble so I hit the panic button and the lock/unlock buttons in various orders until the trouble went away. Apparently I caused this but didn't drive the truck at nite for a few days so I didn't realize there was a problem. WheW, dodged a bullet. (pun intended)
