hello all. new to the forum but have used it a ton for this new ram i bought and the info and support from your site convinced me to join and post. hopefully as i work on this ram i can help others with what i learn and draw from the vast knowledge that all of you other members provide:) on that note...

i have a 99 1500 with the 5.9l and in the process of replacing the passenger side front axle seal/ wheel bearing/ axle shaft u joint i discovered that i am missing a seal/dust guard that rides right next to the u joint assembly between the u joint and front axle tube. this seal/guard is for keeping debree out of the passenger side axle tube. my question is if anyone knows the part number for a aftermarket replacement or even dealer#. went to my local dealer here in waterford, mich and even they did not know what i was looking for. here is a pic of it on the drivers side.

thanks in advance for the help.

Help Dust seal

I have the same problem with my 99 Ram 1500. No one can tell me what the part is or where to get one. I didn't see one on rockauto. Did you ever find it or what did you do to replace it.

The March 2018 Petersen's 4 wheel mag had a tech article about this very thing. According to McGhee you need these and the part number is Spicer 36364. $4.99 per

that part comes up as a slinger for the outer stub for older Dana axles.

I can’t find one specifically for this spot, as they are just labeled (rock auto & spicer) as axle seal.

I know I replaced these before when I blasted, painted & regeared in ‘09, I got them from Autozone.

I have been looking for an answer to this matter for a long time. Driver (left) side sealing configuration seems to be mishandled at the time of design, mildly speaking.
According to the sites I have mined trough, left shaft receives merely a... slinger, NOT a seal.
Take look here, this is the only place I could find parts: https://www.riversidegear.com/4x4-f...-seal-kit-for-dodge-1500-ram-1994---2000.html
Passenger side part looks like it may work well.

However, IMO, slinger is not a sufficient sealing solution. I have discovered rust and dirt inside of the axle tube proving my point. Here is a pic after I cleaned it up.

A slinger is what belongs there, and some vehicles don’t even have that.

The oil seal is internal, installing from the inside of the differential.

If you did install a seal at the outer C, it would potentially just trap water and contamination inside the axle tube. There’s no lube in there, and no vent. What will happen when it heats up?

There are aftermarket bushings I’ve seen offered for some vehicles that can be greased. Just a solution seeking a problem for most use cases.
