We currently have 2 Mopars, a 2017 Jeep GC 3.6 and my 2013 Ram. These have honestly been the most reliable vehicles my wife and I have had in the last 15 years. Yes there's been recalls, but all of which we have been offered a loaner for and FCA had the parts ready to go. The worst brand of vehicles we've had was by far Ford. A 2002 Explorer, 2002 Focus, and a 2007 Focus. All 3 had all kinds of problems and cost us quite a bit of money. We've also had 3 Nissans, a 2006 Frontier, 2011 Altima, and a 2014 Rogue. My Frontier needed a radiator at 32k which is ridiculous. The Rogue had multiple recalls which Nissan didn't have the parts to fix for months. One of which was the fuel pump wiring that could catch fire. I made them give my wife a loaner until they had the parts in. It also wouldn't blow hot air in the winter randomly which in New England is a pretty big problem. The Altima was a good car I will say.

However having had the tick, I am concerned with the future of my cam and lifters. I plan on keeping this truck for at least another 5 years but if it needs $3000+ worth of work I may consider moving on.

My experience: 2009 Nissan murano. 159k miles, about 11k when we bought it. Only 2 repairs. One was the radiator started leaking like a seive. I replaced for under $200. Second is the yaw sensor. Haven't done that yet. Every thing else has been tires, brakes, oil changes, and whatever maintenance Nissan called for. Nothing else. It runs great, my only concern is the cvt tranny.
I believe this era of modern vehicles, built to higher standards, closer tolerances, more computer controlled... that more vehicles across almost all manufacturers will see vehicles with 200k + miles on them. It will become the norm, not the exception.

Hey Hemi395, how many miles are currently on your truck and is your tick gone with redline or was it a manifold issue?

I currently have a little over 36k on my truck. Redline 5w30 is so far keeping my truck nice and quiet. Haven’t had the pleasure of broken manifold bolts yet...

So far with 20000 miles, my hemi is quite, no tick. The cam lifter failure is always in the back of my mind.

As far as quality is concerned, all of our Jeeps and rams have been been great. Our jeep liberty had poor window frame in door design, fixed with after market. That's, pretty much it maintenance and all went well.

I'm in my third Ram truck and have confidence in the builds. Now that I think about it, only problems I've had is with the service department at the dealership. My 1999 Dodge Magnum was solid up to 180k, only routine maintenance. It did start to eat oil around 150k if I remember correctly. But was an amazing truck imo. My 2013 was Unbelievably Rock Solid; all those long weekends in the mountains racing. That 5.7 was truly solid. My new 2018 6.4 is the most capable truck I have ever owned. It is having tranny issues but I still have confidence in the truck.
The Maxcare warranty I have mixed feelings about it. If the dealership services your truck I think it's beneficial, because they can't blame you for a service related failure. For guys like me that enjoy doing routine maintenance on their truck, I'm not so sure.
As for the 3 Ram trucks I have owned, the 5.9, 5.7 and 6.4 have never had Any kind of failure.

In these newer trucks it seems like the tranny's are always the most troublesome across all the brands unless you happen to have an Aisin or an Allison in keeping tabs all my friends and family. I'm not saying that failure rates are overly high or anything, but it does seem like these modem auto's do have a higher tendency to misbehave. I haven't PCM swapped for a real tune on the Ram yet, but in all my other vehicles I typically tell the tuner shift quality is a secondary concern and make sure to minimize slippage and tune for reliability. Between that and being a little over zealous on tranny maintenance I haven't had any issues with my auto's over the years.

No tune for me on my new 6.4, it's staying Bone Stock. I have always did a simple pan drop every 30k and that has served me well over the years. Only transmission failure I've had is on my old 1986 Trans Am with 280k.

03 5.7 1500 with 230k miles. On RL 10-40 now. Smooth and quite. Only major mechanical, rebuilt heads at 150k. 2018 2500 6.4 with 7500 miles. Got valve train dry start up for 2 seconds after dropping factory oil at 1000 and running Amsoil SS 0-40. Dropped the Amsoil and tried PUP 0-40 with 7 oz of Lubegurad. No more valve train cold start noise. Will do the same when my replacement comes in. My thoughts are the same as may of yours. Not sure I will get 230k out of the 6.4. Very different engine design than the 03 5.7. But keeping it out of MDS, changing the oil at 3000 with a RP filter, Lifetime warranty, is abundance of caution. Of all of our 6 Dodge/Ram trucks,,,this one (other than the factory exhaust defect) is the best Ram we have ever enjoyed. Will see how that turns out.

The 3rd gen hemi is the 350 sbc of yesteryear. In abundance and dirt cheap. Last thing I would worry about.
