Hey,

I've been researching the 2500 series pick-up trucks online, and I've read multiply times that the value of these trucks tank with the gasoline engine. The PW is in on my short list and it's making me a little hesitant due to the gas engine. Anyone else consider the resale value before purchasing their PW?

I don't want to focus too much on the resale value, but just something on my mind.

Thanks...

(The Rebel is cool, but been there, done that, bought the t-shirt)

I think the powerwagon will hold a little better in resale than the mass production trucks kind of like raptors and other more specialized vehicles. Time will tell

I didn't consider it... my last truck is 17 years old (still have it). Don't plan on getting rid of this anytime in the near future.

I didn't even think about it either. I loved the truck and think they will hold value better then regular HD's due to the whole package.

Look at how much more Used Power Wagons are selling for than your standard hemi 2500/3500's of the same year/mileage, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Dealerships make money, that's their business and so I don't worry about the trade in value due to they will make the money, not me. Never. I worked at Dodge dealership as a teenager, and so money making was their most important thing, even if it meant being dishonest to customers by telling me to swap good parts on a new car with broken ones on a sale. I quit soon afterwards.

We just traded in my wife's 1995 K1500 with 262,000 miles on it when I recently purchased my Power Wagon. The truck would spew and smoke out a quart of oil out in less than 100 miles of city driving, sometimes in less mileage and more oil. We were happy to get $100 for it since every piston ring was entirely shot from years of heavy hauling/towing. They put it out on the lot for sale at $3,500. Everything else was good with the truck and it looked nice and so with the new spark plugs that I had just installed it should be somewhat cleaner burning for maybe another 500 miles or less.

I am planning to keep my Power Wagon running for just as long as our 1995 did. My 1998 K1500 has 300,000 miles on it and still runs great with no oil usage. Rust got to my 1978 truck which still runs great at 318,000 miles.

The used powerwagons are holding out a lot better than you think. Look at a diesels depreciation vs the powerwagon, they are similar. Add in a Laramie 6.4 non power wagon and you will see a massive difference. Remember you are saving 10k because there isnt a diesel option.

If you are worried about depreciation buy a diesel F-250 they seemingly drop the slowest out of the bands of HD's

So with that track record, whats your oil interval change and synth or conventional??? :)

Been looking at the latest generation PW's. LOVE my 2013 I've had since new, but like the idea of a little more TQ, a little more MPG, and really wanted a Leather Heated / Vented seats. When the latest suspension design came out along with the 6.4, I was a bit skeptical. Too many bushings and links with that new full coil sprung suspension.

As luck would have it, I found the perfect unique truck I was looking for. Two years old, but with all the top notch mods (rock sliders / wheels/ shell) and exact color, interior and trim I wanted. I went to have a look, and they would only give me just under $30k for it (60k miles).

I didn't sleep for a couple of days contemplating this situation; New PW, no mods - the '16 built as if it were ordered originally just for me, OR just keeping the '13 which I still loved dearly.

Ended up purchasing the 2016, and then selling my son the 2013! So, now we have the best of ALL worlds, plus nearly matching Father/Son Power Wagons, and are so blessed that we can keep them both... and likely will for the remainder of both of our lives', if all goes well!

And, in a more direct response to the original question; It seems here in the AZ/UT/CA/NV region that -well kept, non-abused- Power Wagons of all years hold their value quite well. The dealerships are asking only a few grand less than those of the brand new model year currently on the lots (if you can find them) .

I think with all the recent extremely positive reviews in both the Media, and by word of mouth, they will continue to hold their resale values for years to come. There really isn't any other truck like it. And the Raptors are going for about $15k used, to $25k+more new.

And there really isn't ANY other offering out there from anyone that can both be so capable at work and play, all while looking and having such great interiors and all the other features. They truly are in a class of their own.

Not trying to be rude but there are many "2500 Series" PK's. What do you need your truck to do? Are you towing a boat or travel trailer or something that requires a 5th Wheel? The PW will also drag an unwilling Raptor up an off road trail if you want. You said the PW is on your short list so you must be familiar with the capabilities of the truck. If you are not going to use the PW in all its glory and what it was made to do then just buy a diesel.
