It didn't tick at all like a Timebomb when I got it. It now has 54k on it. Think I may try the Pennzoil yellow bottle next time

I have redline 5 20 in it now with a rp filter. It's pretty quiet and smooth, but like I mentioned I'm getting tired of 80+ dollar oil changes.

The Chevron Supreme is available from Amazon Prime or Walmart for like $12 per 5-quart. It is a semi-synthetic now and carries the MS-6395 spec.

If you follow the OLM (you should) then you can use any MS-6395 based oil and follow your manual. Ignore what oil companies market, Internet "specialist" recommend and just change it a little early if that lets you sleep better at night.

I'm using PUP right now. My degree is in chemistry and there isn't "voodoo" involved but there is plenty of marketing. It is debatable which properties are necessary and cost-effective in high-end oils. I'm a geek so I like using really good lubricants but I've also run the Chevron which has a really good add pack and it is just about the cheapest oil you can buy. Using the Pennzoil rebate I only paid $17 for the PUP though so I'm paying less than a penny per mile for my choice. It runs quieter at startup than the Chevron too in my Pentastar.

It's called a hemi tick. Been around since the new hemi was introduced in 2003. Always used M1 in my vehicles until I used it in my 11 hemi, ran very loud, so I switched to Pp. In my 16 I run PUP. There are three items I don't try to save dollars with. Brakes, tires and oil.

So after you reset oil change when does it know when to come on next time?
MEANING is there a way to set it to say change at 3000 miles or 6000 miles etc?
As every one has a different oil change times

You might want to ask the 3rd Gen guys. Totally different system on your truck than the 4th Gen.

So what is a good cheap oil that works well and doesn't make the hemi tick, I used Quaker state synthetic last time and it ticked like a blown sewing machine when it was cold. Put redline in and quited down alot. But im about over the 80+ dollar oil changes

You can try running walmart super tech and putting in lubegaurds biotech, poor mans redline. Same science, esters and high oil soluble moly, just less of it. Maybe even try 6 qrts whatever and one qrt redline.

Or try your favorite oil and just go up to 30 weight.

However, after seeing the results for the last 5 years, nothing will keep that engine as quiet as redline, except perhaps clone oils like Motul, but the cost is similar. It s more correct to say redline is Motul's clone, but redline's specs are better.

You can try PYB and also consider adding lubeguard biotech if it's ticking. Let the syn thread knows what works and doesn't work as far as killing tick.

80 dollars versus 7k dollar cam job is why I stay with redline personally.

Well my tick ended up being exhaust manifold bolts and not because of the Quaker state. I changed the oil before I realized what the tick was. Still torn on what to use. May just suck it up and use red line.

I agree 100%. I also would add batteries to your list. I have never been stranded because of a bad battery and never want to be. I generally change them out every 3 years. I might let my vehicles go a little longer but will always change out the battery in my wife's car at that interval. A woman alone with a car that won't start in today's pathetic world is not an option.

in addition, my wife's cars will always be equipped with run flat tires. I recently had a flat on my truck in a very bad spot. It was a very good reminder of why I consider run flats essential equipment on my wife's car.
