Ordered the 2016 Ram 1500 in Maximum Steel Metallic and am curious how the color is holding up over time.

I had a similar color on another vehicle and just took it through the car wash a few times a week since I had an unlimited monthly wash club membership for $20/month. The paint held up well over the five years and couldn't even see any swirls. On the other hand I also had a black (non metallic car) that is a year old and it look great cleaned up from a distance, but once you get close to it you can really see the swirls in the paint.

Any issues taking you trucks through the car wash or do you recommend hand wash only? I don't mind doing it myself but hate doing it in the cold weather, thus the monthly car wash membership to get the salt off the vehicles in the winter.

Thanks guys- and ladies of course

Swirls don't show up badly in this color, it's pretty forgiving. I also have a black Mustang and do a lot of detailing so know exactly what you're worried about.

Any suggestions on whether or not wax or put a sealant on it as soon as I get it or is there a waiting period before you should apply anything to the new paint?
I assume the factory bakes the paint in since they have to get them dried fast and out the door.

I would clay bar the paint (to remove any containments for shipment from the factory) and then seal & wax it as soon as you can.

Does a clay bar work on getting the built up road grime off the lower panels as well? I have never clay bared before but I have little globs of **** I need to remove. Using a wash mitt doesn't work.

What are little globs of ****??
If its road tar do not use a clay bar on that, a bug and tar remover would be advised 1st.
A clay bar should be used after your truck has been washed. The clay is used to remove contaminants embedded in your paint/glass, using it to remove bugs or tar will contaminate the clay bar and potentially ruin the clay and or scratch your surfaces.

My father-in-law has a 1500 Laramie that is swirled really bad from using a automated car wash that touches his paint.

My 2500 is not swirled, I use only touchless systems, and more often hand wash.
Paint is thin and scratches easily, and since its a dark color the scratches show easily. Both trucks are garaged on a regular basis, however neither show any signs of fading.

Bug and tar or wax and grease remover both work pretty well with bigger contaminants.

This is a little easier (and more forgiving) to use then clay but make sure you always use plenty of lubricant on the paint surface.

If the paint isn't over dirty then you can get away with a waterless car wash solution and a couple of good microfiber towels. I use this stuff all the time, you can also buy it by the gallon. Again, use lots of product and always wipe in a straight line whenever possible.

It's just the clearcoat that shows the scratches easily.Easily repaired. It'd have to be a nasty scratch to get into the paint.

Sure the clear coat scratches, but it does not take much effort to scratch through the paint to the primer.

Truck arrived and the paint looked good. Dealer had prepped it before I arrived to pick it up and waxed it. I'm liking the Maximum Steel Blue color. faf235d56fe6cdc0476f2e81516b6760.jpg

If you go to a drive through carwash make sure it's the no-touch variety and you'll be alright. Max steel looks awesome when it's clean. It can look blue, purple, black or variations of all 3 depending on the light and angle.

I don't think I have any no touch car washes in my area. I'll have to try and wash it myself but I'm not sure what to do when it gets cold. I've been spoiled lately by having a monthly unlimited car wash plan so I would take it through daily to get any dirt or salt off if I was passing by the car wash.

I only use touch less and rest of time I hand wash using the two bucket method. I’m OCD and can’t handle the cloth car washes.

Clayed the first day I got it and used one step sealer, and spray wax both Griots.

I also wax once a week with griots spray wax. About to try a pure carnauba wax soon to see if I can tell the difference. But I love the color and it shines in the sun like a mirror.

I have a 2015, paint seems to be holding up good.
Researching the Ceramic Pro product. A new place opened up in my area.
Thinking of taking it down for an estimant.
Hoping a coating like this will give it longevity and simply washing and waxing
