Funny thing is , most folks who trust the dealer to do simple task such as an oil change not only have no idea of what a quality oil is , they don't even know what their engine is speced for or what's good or bad ....most just trust the dealership blindly .... unfortunately the dealer is well aware of this .
The dealer charges a premium pice for a lesser product = dealer makes a greater return on their service all while knowing they will also fix future repairs for this idiot that they ultimately was the cause for ....and again they will charge a premium because the BS Warranty has recently ran out ...

Unless something has changed Mobil has made the oil for Mopar for years and years. It's a fair quality oil.

LMAO, something has changed.
The only other name in the hat I'm aware of is penzoil. Also fair oil. I was never able to verify the penzoil change.

I'm sure Mopar is decent oil, likely way over priced, but likely decent quality.

The rift between Mobil and FCA, I doubt they are mixing the oil. Also, knowing Mopar they are likely using a much cheaper blender then mobil. This is just a guess, but I would need to see evidence to be convinced otherwise.

I always thought Mobil1 was better than a fair oil, maybe not botique status, but at least in the upper part of the category.

Their synthetic was mobil one with a different label, no different than the off the shelf product. It's likely the same now regardless of who supplies it.

Sorry for the double post.

Mobile 1 is sketchy and will shear like crazy under high load applications. Just ask the turbo 4 crowds how it worked for them and their toasted bearings.

Mobil 1 is the risk free choice, you know what you get.

In turbo's, I would think redline is a pretty good choice.

it would have to be different as m1 doesn't meet rams spec ms6395. That was the rift I was talking about.

For some reason, I recall Penzoil Platinum having a bad rep a few years ago... am I mistaken?

I guess it could be the same oil, if it has the Mopar label on it it meets ms6395, if it has Mobil label on it it don't.

I've never heard Pennzoil is poor quality since Shell bought them. If I didn't have an oil choice locked up, I would experiment with it to see how it measured up against m1. it is a very clean base oil and is putting out great uoa's.

It takes forever to dial in differences between oils for the average driver. If you are putting 50k on a vehicle a year you can gather enough data across 2 years. For your average driver it would take a decade of ownership.

The best you can do is look for a place with a collection of uoa results with driving style and vehicle information given.

Everyone has their brand. My brother swears by Royal purple. His 09 1500 is going on to 200k miles and the engine is as strong as ever. Everything else is falling apart, but the engine is clean and uoa last I heard was positive.

We don't know that Mobil1 doesn't meet ms6395, it's never been tested. If Peak and some of the other oils I've seen that meet ms6395 I wouldn't have any problems running Mobil1. Personally I'm thinking of giving it a shot to see how it does.

Y'all know i'm all about Amsoil. Don't hold it against me. I thought there was a rule you couldn't bash on Amsoil users during gov't shutdowns.
