Not sure this is up your alley, but you can get away with up to a 75 shot of nitrous with the stock tune if you run one step colder on the spark plugs and use 93/94 octane fuel.Just throwing that out there for you to think about.Odds are it's cheaper then buying an unlocked pcm and tuner or a set of long tube headers, and will definitely give you a noticeable performance boost. This is a good entry level nitrous kit

Their kit will fit your 17,the only reason they don't suggest it for the newer trucks,is because they need an unlocked PCM and custom tune for the higher horsepower jets. I run that kit on my little 14 4X4 and it took almost a full second off the truck on the small 75 horse jets.Denso 3381 spark plugs are a decent choice for plugs,i run mine gapped at 0.032".

You must of been listening to the guys running 400hp nitrous kits,as that's a new one on me,and I've been using nitrous since I put it on a brand new 1981 Turbo Trans Am back in the fall of 1980,lol. Nitrous is nothing more then a chemical supercharger,it introduces more oxygen and fuel into the combustion chamber. I wouldn't run a 10,000 mile oil change schedule, but you're perfectly safe running a 5 or 6,000 mile oil change schedule if you're using a good grade synthetic oil.
