Not sure exactly where I’m suppose to be adding this post.

I have notice a thumping sound when I make sharp turns or hit a pot hole. Is this normal? I recently had steps put on and it’s a 2018 mega cab. Can anyone give me an idea of what it might be. Thanks

something in your truck bed, in glove box, center console or any other storage place bumping/rolling around?

Does this happen when you have 4x4 inserted?

You truck is new, reproduce the noise with the dealer inside the car.

I had a loose chassis bolt generating a pothole/speed bump noise like a bolt without bushing.
Dealership fixed it twice and now i will see if it appears again...

It’s nothing moving around inside or the bed. It’s sounds like it’s coming from underneath the back. It’s not in 4x4 either. I think I will take it to the dealer to see what it could be.

My Husband checked all the bolts for the steps and there all tight so I don’t think it’s the steps.

I had the same issue after installing nerf bars on my 2016 Mega. I chased it down to the mounting bolts for the steps. I retorqued all bolts and none were loose but still had the noise. I then loosened and retorqued all bolts and the noise went away. Also very important to do this with the truck sitting level. Initially I did the install on a slight grade and maybe that contributed to problem. When I loosened and retorqued I did it on level ground.

We got our nerf bars done at a shop and they have been squeaking so my husband ordered some Neoprene washers to try to get rid of the noise. When he puts them on he’ll retorque all the bolts so maybe it will get rid of the thump. Thanks for the help! Did your nerf bars squeak too?

If they're squeaking that tells me something is loose and moving. Also, I have to be honest...When I said I retorqued the bolts, yes I did use a torque wrench but then I muscled a few more turns out of the bolts that go into the body mounts to tighten them up even more. My bars had rubber pads that went between the mounting arms and steps.

Our bars have the rubber pads between the bars as well. Nothing seems loose but we’ll tighten them up more with the other washers he’s going to put on. Thank you!

4th gen 2500”s where notorious for making a thud noise, I think it was the body mounts, but I also think this has been corrected. - Question- is the truck lifted? If so does it have newer long shocks or does it have the factory shock with the lower extension?

It’s the fold flat deck under the rear seat bouncing up and down. Check to see that the securing straps are buttoned.
