I actually took the locks off my 11'. Not many guys stealing stock rims around here and it's a pain when it's at the tire shop, because it doesn't always go back in the truck and I have to go back to get it. Have to keep the lock key in the truck in case I get a flat so it's also not like a thief couldn't find it if they wanted to steal the wheels anyway.
Forever ago, McGard made the keys "inverted" compared to now...the actual key portion was external (i.e. not surrounded by a socket like they are now). My mom slid into a curb with her car that had that type locking wheel lug. Aluminum wheel + steel locking lug nut is bad enough, add on the fact that the key now only had about 1/8" of material to put torque on....yeah, that was a curse filled couple days for sure!
Ever since then my dad makes the dealer remove wheel locks when he buys cars. He bought a 1 year old Corvette, told them to drive it into the shop and take off the wheel lugs before delivery. 1 hour later they finally had them all off.
You're right...who the heck wants stock wheels? And anyone that wants to take my huge heavy a$$ plastic clad 20's can have em!
