I’m about to do a tune up and some just general routine maintenance. I found that they make shorty wires to replace the ones that go across the intake. I’m looking at the 10.4mm wires. I have 2 questions. How well to the shorty wires work and will they work on a stock tune? And what spark plugs are best for a more performance based build? I want something that’s may give it a little more performance that will just help along with other things that I will be doing this summer.

I'm not running the shorties but there are many that are and have not had issues. Some issues have been reported but they are fairly few.

Best plugs are Champion 570 or NGK 5306 Copper Core with a .045 gap. Change them out every 30k and you are golden.

Thanks for the input. So do platinum plugs not do well in these motors?

According to that post and some others in the same thread, platinums don't seem to work well in the hemi. Iridium plugs seem to do ok but obviously cost a lot more. I've used the coppers since I got my truck and have never had problems. It's about to hit 200k and 150k of that is all me.

In the manual it says to have a .043 gap, is having it at 0.45 better or will make any difference. I will be changing my plugs and wondering what to set at.

I've been using a .045 since the first plug change. Most of the posts that I have read concerning plugs for the Hemi recommend the same. It works very well for me.

Avoid the platinums, shorties will be fine. Really wanna clean things up, get a set of 06-08 valve covers, coils and the adapters. I had these on hand for my truck but decided when I removed the harness I'd upgrade the connectors themselves. So I used them in my 05 Magnum to get rid of the mess.

I’m using Shorties for my stroker. Time will tell if they give me issues

The coil packs/valve cover/ harness is a upgrade for the new motor but for right now I’m just going to run the shorties with champion 570 plugs.

Iridium for sure, the only negative I've heard about the shorties is they don't like temperatures that get below zero and can give you starting issues then. I'm swapping mine out too, but I live in GA.

I personally have never had issues with the one time I used iridiums, but more often than not I've heard of people having issues with them. I've never had had issues with shorties and that's through multiple CT, NY and MD winters.

That's just something I read, I believe here somewhere, but I can't substantiate or deny that. I have no idea.

I live in Alabama so our winters aren’t that bad so hopefully I’ll be in good shape. We’ll see how well they work next weekend.

I’ve been having idle issues with my stroker. I’m wondering if the Shorties are to blame. I might try to switch them and see what happens
