Hi all, I have a 2012 1500 Laramie that wiped the #1 exhaust cam lobe because of a bad lifter. After much research I decided to replace the engine with a rebuilt engine from Accurate engines. The process was tedious and on Thursday February 15th I started the new engine. The following day I drove the truck about 100 miles. As I was pulling into my driveway I got a check engine light and the red oil can symbol on my dash. The code is P0521. I removed negative battery cable and unplugged both sensors at the oil filter. I started the truck and after about 10 minutes got the oil can symbol on the dash but no code. I replaced the oil pressure sensor and got the red oil can symbol again after about 5 minutes. The oil pressure gauge has been fluctuating the whole time going to zero and back to normal. I'm trying to figure what my next move should be? Any and all comments are welcome. Thank you.

Maybe the oil pumps over pressure bypass is stuck open or not fully closing ?

Remove your oil filter and cut the can carefully so you do not get any metal from cutting the filter open. Then take filter media and inspect for metal. A little metal in the filter is normal in a brand new engine. But I'd you have metal in every pleat then something in the engine has failed. Hold on to any thing you find and keep the filter and make sure you do not contaminate it. The engine builder will want to look at the material. If no metal then I would look at the pump and relief maybe a suction bell problem. Have you put a mechanical oil gauge in the oil pressure sensor location to check oil pressure ?

Take an oil sample and send it to BLACKSTONE LABS .
Go to www.blackstoneslabs , they will send you a free kit , or tell you what to use to put your sample in . On the oil analysis they can detect what metal you have and what component may have failed . This may be helpful for you with the engine builder as well .

Just curious, have you called Accurate Engines?
