I do agree, but 5w30 is not a heavy weight oil when it comes down to it.

Had a 02 2500 chevy witj a 6.0l with piston slap, very loud motor but 10w40 shut it up..lol
That old 460 was like a teenaged girl, you couldn't shut her up no matter how hard you tried!

Ha no way I could run that factory fill for that many miles.. I have a hard enough time doing that on synthetics..
Yeah I still have a hard time believing the factory doesn’t use any kind of special lubricant in there for break-in purposes but I’ve had several dealers tell me they don’t. I guess I could send an email to Ram themselves but I’m not so optimistic about not receiving the runaround even from them. I’m probably gonna go take advantage of my free oil change this weekend since I’m getting closer to 3000.

But without going back thorough the thread to see if it was mentioned already, when I do go in for my first oil change- since I don’t remember what they have, is it better to just bring in my own oil? I’ll look today when I go out but so far I’ve been having a hard time finding that Pennzoil Ultra Premium oil. They all seem to have the step below that but not the stuff pretty much everyone recommends.

I guess no matter what, I probably ought to hop on Amazon and start lookin for some oil.

Really? Bud 30 years ago you could go 4K on Dino oils. Fast forward to today and I can’t go 5500 on synthetic? You go waste your money changing your oil every 1500 miles and I’ll save mine. This isn’t your great grand pa’s model t.

How does that Royal Purple filter stand up to Wix’s XP line of filters?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Imo and per the oil filter thread if I remember correctly the Wix XP speced for the hemi is a good choice of filter much better than the Mopar one and is similar to the RP10-48 filter . The RP 10-48 does perform better on the oil filter test , in fact the RP was pretty much head & shoulders above the filters tested , I'm assuming the Wix XP was part of the test ...not certain on that one .

I wasn’t being an ass but like I said I’ll change my oil every 6k or so and save money and you can change every 1500 but ok. [emoji1589]

Where did I say I changed my oil every 1500 miles ?
I will hit 8k on my oil this week.

The FF break in oil is what I was talking about not keeping in there that long, you know with all the breaking in the motor goes through.

I’ll probably just stick with the Mopar branded one. I don’t know how true it is but the other day when I was taking to my dealership’s service writer about doing my own oil changes, and what needs to be done in all about record-keeping and such, I asked about filters and he said that a while back they had had a guy come in with a truck that only had 7000 miles on it that had failed a motor and they blamed it on the usage of a K&N oil filter so, I’m not thinkin’ I’m gonna be using anything else. I mean, I guess I could do some research on seeing how K&N oil filters stack up against the competition but either way it don’t matter what I learn about them because if anything ever happens to my motor, why risk my warranty on any other oil filter besides what the manufacturer calls for? I don’t know how Mopar oil filters stack up but that’s what they say to use so that’s what I’m gonna use.

The Mopar filter is basically middle of the pack ....; However , the Mopar filter is ok , but you would serve you engine much better using a 100% synthetic micro glass spun filter like the RP10-48. , or the Wix XP or the frame ultra. , But for your peace of mind the Mopar filter will likely not fail ???

Good luck to you Sir .

I had a K&N leak on me, it was all because the threads we're not cut square with the base plate and it wouldn't pull up square and completely seal. Luckily I caught it before I lost more than a qt of oil. You can see where it was rubbing around the inlet holes on 1/2 of the base plate.6c343cd837f1ca8876148f15a4277a19.jpg

What do you mean?

I would much rather use a synthetic media filter as it probably is better but in accordance to what I said, what do I do if I ever have something happen to the motor and there’s no corporate oil filter screwed on to the bottom of the engine? The service writer-dude did say a Mopar oil filter or equivalent but which filters are? Obviously a K&N isn’t or maybe it was, they just placed the blame on it because it wasn’t Mopar. I don’t know anymore about that so I can’t further speculate as to why it seems like some joker made a bad, bad decision on spinning either some other filter other than Mopar or that because he used a certain filter made by a certain brand, I dunno

Oh wow. And to think I’ve been using those filters for about the last couple years on my old truck.

I'd used them for years on my other vehicles and my bikes and never had any problems untill this one. Not anymore.

If your affraid your engine will blow and you'll be towed to a dealer and they will find you have on a much much better filter then claim void on your engine warranty due to the much much better filter , then just keep a mediocre Mopar filter in your glove box .. this way when your paranoia comes true all you have to do is spin on the Mopar filter and crank a few times to get oil in it and call the tow truck .

This cenario will never happen , but if it makes you feel better Sir this is all you must do ...

I’m not at all afraid that my motor’s gonna blow up, dude. That’s not it. That’s not even close to it. Not even in the same ballpark. I don’t deny it at all that there’s probably a lot of better aftermarket oil filters out there that blow Mopar filters clean out of the water but again I ask, what filters are actually equivalent? What filters will get blamed for a failure and which ones won’t? See where I’m coming from? In the unforeseeable act I do have a failure, they can’t deny me coverage over their own filter....

But in another thought, I can just see how well that would go over, showing up to the dealership on the wrecker with an oil filter that looks like it had just been put on there....[emoji41]

True .

Any aftermarket filter that is speced for your engine can not cause a void in warranty.
The Magnus act prevents this from happening .
This ^^^^^^^^^^^ was discussed here about 50 - 100 post ago by Rampant .
