For the past few months, if I'm sitting at idle in my truck with the engine running and the radio off, I can periodically hear what sounds like water gushing back and forth. Every time I think to check it, the truck's been running for quite a while and it's too hot to open the cap. I can't see if anything is in the white plastic tank. I'll try to remember tonight after it's completely cooled down to check, but I was wondering if the water gushing sound would signal a low coolant level? My engine temp runs normal - even when towing.

About two weeks ago - Right about the 65,000 mark, I started my truck up with the windows down while in the garage. It made a sound like cards in a bicycle wheel - tick, tick, tick, tick... fast though. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the truck. I backed out of the driveway while monitoring the sound. It went away for a second, and then when I started to move forward a bit faster, it came back. By the time I exited my neighborhood (less than 30 seconds), the sound was gone. I've noticed lately that the sound comes back when the engine is cold. The minute it's warmed up, the sound is gone. No loss of power, no performance issues that I've seen. Just the noise when it's cold. Yesterday it was doing it while I was in the driveway with the truck in reverse (not moving though). I put the truck in park and slowly revved up the engine. It was gone. Put it back in drive and revv it up a bit - sound came back for about 10 seconds, and then disappeared. Thought that was odd.

Thought on either of these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Glenn

The tick will be your manifold bolts, but the gushing noise is the transmission coolant lines bolt. Search the forum you can remove the bolt and zip tie the lines to a higher point plus put insulation around it. Search my posts... I cover it. PM me if you cant find it.

Ya, the rams are famous for exhaust manifold (header) bolts snapping, thus a leak. If it goes away after 5 or so min when the truck warms up thats your issue.

Thank you. I'm guessing take it to the dealer if it's snapped bolts. Doesn't sound like something I can fix without causing more damage.

Hi Glen,

You've got some great advice here. Should you decide to take it to the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help with this process.

Thank you. Called my service guy today. He is getting me in next Tuesday morning. Said he should have it back to me that day. Told him what I was told here, and he asked me what the symptoms were. He responded "Yep.", and made my appointment.
All the best,
Glenn

Ask the dealer to do a coolant leak inspection. That's probably what you're hearing in the cab. You have to ask yourself how and why it's low. Could be a leaking hose clamp, water pump, radiator or somewhere else. If they don't find anything ask them to do a 'sniff test' of the coolant (or the test strips) and the exhaust. Sometimes low coolant is due to a failed head gasket, or maybe a crack or porus head. Not trying to scare you, but if they're looking at things, it's worth a check. There's coolant going somewhere. Most likely it's a small seep somewhere. Come back and let us know what you found out.

Update to all the issues (thanks to all that replied):
Repair report showed:

1) Replaced ALL exhaust manifold bolts. (ticking sound fixed - it was an exhaust leak - thanks to the forum for helping identify) - Warranty covered
2) Coolant level was low. Said they found a very small leak. Replaced water pump and all antifreeze. - Warranty covered
3) Claimed my AC wasn't blowing as cold as it should be (it was fine to me, but they supposedly tested that as they thought it might be the gurgling I was hearing)... So they replaced some parts. I have to look again to identify which ones. I want to say condenser, but I'm not familiar with the workings of the AC system, so I may be mistaken. Anyway - Extended Warranty covered - $100 deductible.

Got my truck back in two days. They gave me a rental car on the first day after they determined they couldn't fix it by that evening. I didn't even ask - they just authorized and paid for it.

On the day I got my truck, on the way home, I got a check engine light and a notice to "Service Electronic Braking System". Called and left a message with a person, not machine (the service dept was closed by the time it happened). Truck was running fine otherwise. That night, I noticed that when I locked my truck with the key fob, my regular brake lights and the third brake light on the cab stayed on. I watched them for a while. At about 15 minutes, they turned off.

My service advisor called me the minute he walked in and checked his messages the next morning at about 7am. Got me back in that day, and said they would fix while I waited. I walked around the lot looking at the new trucks. Not much different looking than my 2014. Although there was an awesome looking blue one with the sport hood and frosted blue anodized trim in the interior, black seats with bright blue stitching... really awesome looking truck. 20 minutes later, he called my cell phone and told me it was fixed.

The brake light staying on is what keyed the tech in on the real problem - a plunger that supposedly not only was bent and keeping my brake lights on, but also telling the truck that something must be wrong with the electronic braking system - either that... or the driver was riding the brakes. Either way, that message is the one that pops up. The tech said he must have bent it when he was putting the dash back together. I didn't know the dash had to come apart for these repairs... but maybe it did - AC work maybe? Anyway, it was no charge to fix, as he said he caused the problem.

Drove it from San Antonio to Zapata TX and back this weekend to fish Lake Falcon - towing my bass boat. No issues at all. So it seems everything is now fixed. Thanks for all the assistance. Just wanted to ensure I posted an update.

All the best,
Glenn
