I’ve only been selling cars for 15 years, so take this with a grain of salt. Not all aftermarket warranties or bad, some are some are not, that said if you can get a manufacture warranty they are generally better than anything else. Technically an extended warranty that you purchase is actually called an extended service contract, warrantees are free and included in the purchase price, just a minor difference in legalese. Anyway, if you can find a reasonable price on a manufacturer extended service contract it is well worth the cost. I tell all of my customers if you look at the footprint of the dealership 25% of it is the sales department and 75% of it is the service department, you can read between the lines on that one.

I also have been in the car business a long time...all my life. Garage owner and used car sales. (2 years as line mechanic at Nickel Chrysler in Midland during the 70's).
BUT.. I haven't bought many "new" vehicles...after all I 'm in the business...so warranty didn't usually exist very long on anything.
At my age now...I just don't want to work on personal vehicles... especially on heavy iron with a diesel engine...sooo I bought a new dually and all the warranty I could get. To be honest that's the only reason I bought a new vehicle, warranty! The last thing I want to have to worry about is a new transmission..or electrical problem an a late model vehicle.
I figure in 8 years I won't be needing a big truck nearly as much, I'll be 77 then, and in the mean time I we won't have to be responsible for any repairs on it.
I didn't really have to have that kind of truck now...but I felt like I owed myself at least one new truck in my lifetime, dealer or not, and the Laramie Longhorn leather interiors just knock me out...not to mention from a mechanics viewpoint I believe the Cummins engine is the best diesel made. I've made a ton of money selling used Dodge diesels, and absolutely love them.
This whole deal is still about selling pickups though. To go along with my new Ram I also had a custom goose neck car/ truck trailer built!
It's very easy for an old guy to use...and it is especially built to haul crew cab long wheel base diesel pickups, (and anything else really).
The two together are a real pleasure to use.
I have a well equipped shop and a full time mechanic still (not a real diesel guy though)...and wake up at night thinking spending 70K on a pickup is probably the dumbest thing I've ever done...but I get over it as soon as I get in it the next morning to make the rounds. Especially when some of my dealer pals comment on it's appearance..(mega Cab dually short bed).
I just tell 'em I've always driven short bed pickups...this one is a SWB on steroids, lol!
