We just found out today that our extended warranty is First Extended Warranty on our 2018 3500 Laramie Longhorn Cummins dually.

I have Mopar Extended Warranty on a 2012 Challenger that I've never had a claim on so don't know how good it is.

The dealership that I bought the 3500 from said they had had issues with Mopar extended warranty claims....and changed over to First Extended Warranty Co. at their dealership.

Does anyone have any knowledge one way or the other regarding either of these extended warranty companies?

I bought the truck in November..and want to get this straightened asap.

Thanks for the help..

Stan...

Never buy a third party extended warranty. They have so many clauses and ways to get out of paying, you will never get anything covered.

The dealer is just telling you that because they make more money from the third party ones than Chrysler. I would see if you can cancel it and get a real FCA one.

^^^^^ What he said. ^^^^

The dealership didnt even tell me about the Mopar warranty. I had to ask about it. They owed me money back once i dropped their choice of warranties and went with Mopar life time warranty.

Go with Mopar for all the reasons stated above. Plus, there's no hassle, it will work at any Chrysler dealer. And if you are not sure what the dealer is saying, a call to the Mopar people will get you educated.

Here's a good place to buy the Mopar, Rodney had the best price of several quotes.

I've had a couple 3rd party and they weren't worth it. Had an exhaust manifold leak and they said in the warranty fine print they didn't cover fasteners so I wasn't covered on the last one I bought years ago. Had another before that on a nissan and they wouldn't cover struts because I didn't have oil change receipts. In that case the dealership fixed everything on my car after doing a thorough inspection and said don't worry about it they'll deal with the warranty company since they sold it to me, but that is a rare thing. Manufacturer warranties are the only ones to use.

By the way, the MOPAR extended drive train type warranties are typically not worth the cost. The MOPAR MaxCare ones are the ones to get. More money but covers many more expensive modules and without hassle.

Oh, one dealer matched the best on line pricing, another was not willing.

Mopar all the way. The maxcare also includes things like trip interruption and 1st day rental. I've taken our jeep to a dealer that doesn't do loaners but they offered to setup a rental car bc it was covered by the warranty. I didn't know about that until the service advisor told me.

Mopar........they’ll be in business when many of these third party brands vanish. See if you can change over.

Got 'er done !!

Called the dealership, took the truck to them to record the exact mileage, signed the cancellation form...and canceled the third party crap they sold me.

Then I contacted Rodney Melton at Chrysler Warranty Direct as per John Jenson above (thanks a bunch John!) and took out the Max Care Policy (125K miles for 8 years, $100 deductable).

By the way I checked out Chrysler Warranty Direct to make sure their policy was exactly like the factory offering.

It is ..but for a LOT less money...depending on where you check. The salesman there (Rodney) also knocks off another $100 if you mention the Ram forum...

Glad I caught this before I had a claim down the road a few years...I would have been po'd and sol, to boot!

Sooo..thanks everyone...much obliged for all the input.

Best regards..Stan

I’ve only been selling cars for 15 years, so take this with a grain of salt. Not all aftermarket warranties or bad, some are some are not, that said if you can get a manufacture warranty they are generally better than anything else. Technically an extended warranty that you purchase is actually called an extended service contract, warrantees are free and included in the purchase price, just a minor difference in legalese. Anyway, if you can find a reasonable price on a manufacturer extended service contract it is well worth the cost. I tell all of my customers if you look at the footprint of the dealership 25% of it is the sales department and 75% of it is the service department, you can read between the lines on that one.

I also have been in the car business a long time...all my life. Garage owner and used car sales. (2 years as line mechanic at Nickel Chrysler in Midland during the 70's).

BUT.. I haven't bought many "new" vehicles...after all I 'm in the business...so warranty didn't usually exist very long on anything.

At my age now...I just don't want to work on personal vehicles... especially on heavy iron with a diesel engine...sooo I bought a new dually and all the warranty I could get. To be honest that's the only reason I bought a new vehicle, warranty! The last thing I want to have to worry about is a new transmission..or electrical problem an a late model vehicle.

I figure in 8 years I won't be needing a big truck nearly as much, I'll be 77 then, and in the mean time I we won't have to be responsible for any repairs on it.

I didn't really have to have that kind of truck now...but I felt like I owed myself at least one new truck in my lifetime, dealer or not, and the Laramie Longhorn leather interiors just knock me out...not to mention from a mechanics viewpoint I believe the Cummins engine is the best diesel made. I've made a ton of money selling used Dodge diesels, and absolutely love them.

This whole deal is still about selling pickups though. To go along with my new Ram I also had a custom goose neck car/ truck trailer built!
It's very easy for an old guy to use...and it is especially built to haul crew cab long wheel base diesel pickups, (and anything else really).
The two together are a real pleasure to use.

I have a well equipped shop and a full time mechanic still (not a real diesel guy though)...and wake up at night thinking spending 70K on a pickup is probably the dumbest thing I've ever done...but I get over it as soon as I get in it the next morning to make the rounds. Especially when some of my dealer pals comment on it's appearance..(mega Cab dually short bed).

I just tell 'em I've always driven short bed pickups...this one is a SWB on steroids, lol!

Care to give the cost ?

Hunter..

The delaer that I bought the truck from quoted me a price of $4825 (even though they couldn't sell both policys, they could access the cost supposedly) for the **** care 125K/8 year/ $100 deductible

Another company quoted me $3745.

..and finally with the forum discount, Rodney@Chrysler Warranty Direct sold me a policy for $3,245. Still for: 8 years/125K miles/$100 deductible...which is the absolute best coverage offered on big trucks...by the Mopar backed insurer.

That’s a lot of warranty! I’d be willing to bet the DEF system alone will pay for that, you’ll probably come out ahead.

For the record to anyone pushing the Mopar warranty there is specific wording that allows them to void the warranty if any factory part is replaced with with any non factory part.

Get your money back on the third party warranty and apply it toward a FCA warranty. If your dealer doesn't have FCA as an option that is not good. Only way to go is FCA! Unlimited miles and unlimited years!

Call Clay Robbins at (785) 789-3940 [email protected]

Clay Robbins Motors in KC will hook you up! Great company, great guy. Best prices!
