Is there an indicator that shows when the Cruise Control is controlling the speed? I see the indicator that shows the CC is "on", but is there another that shows that it has engaged?
Is there a SIMPLE way to add such an indicator?

When my CC is activated the speed it is set to is shown on the dial. I forgot which one, but I recall seeing the number on there. Maybe in '14 things are different than in '11. Other vehicles I've owned or currently own, don't show the set speed although I believe some of them do show when the CC is activated vs available. Never paid that much attention to it!

As for your question, I doubt there is a "simple" way to add the indicator, beyond a sticky on the dash when you set it!:)

I think it may be dependent on whether you have the premium cluster. Like previous stated, the CC indicator comes on when you turn it on, when the CC is controlling the speed, that speed is shown near the CC indicator (this is on the 7" multi-page EVIC).

I have a 2017 without the premium display. Mine ahows a message stating the speed it was set to. Following that the current set speed shows up under the center display speedometer...when that screen is used. As well, when turned on the "speedometer" icon is shown. When the speed is set a little arrow appear on the upper left of this icon.
