I have a ram 2500 6.7 automatic and have a choice to make . Banks tuner for 368 bucks or go the full route and get the Turbo back exhaust and EGR delete kit and a programmer that supports the full deletes ?
All I am looking for is improved fuel economy and I tow a 10k 5th wheel some . Right now I am getting about 15 mpg around town and 17 or 18 on the road empty. I have a light foot and normally get better than average MPG . My diesel jeep did 30mpg. I would like to buy the complete setup from one seller.

First of all, it's Cummins...not "Cummings", JC. Try not to make our trucks sound like **** stars, OK? :D

I went with a full delete with an Edge programmer/monitor for my 2017 CTD which included:

  • Edge CTS-2 Insight monitor with Cummins unlock
  • 13 – 17 EFI Live Dodge CSP4 tune package by PPEI / Kory Willis
  • 13 – 17 EFI Live Dodge transmission tuning
  • Cummins tuning switch CSP4
  • EGR valve and cooler removal with block off plate
  • Throttle valve delete
  • FloPro catalytic converter & DPF delete pipe, 4”
  • 4” – 6” black exhaust tip with rolled edge
  • Edge expandable EGT probe kit
  • Pillar pod mount for Edge CTS2y
I got all this from one source, my local diesel repair and tuning shop.
For your 2012 you won't need the unlock as your PCM is not encrypted.
I'd recommend the transmission tune but you can pass on it if you like.
With the Edge unit and 4 tunes, you'll want the CSP switch so you can switch to the appropriate tune on the fly.
A full delete will get rid of the DPF system entirely so you do need the programmer.
You can pass on the exhaust tip. My delete included the 4" delete pipes, which you need when the DPF system is removed.
You can pass on the EGT probe kit but I highly recommend it for watching those temps when towing the 5'vr.
I leave the Edge unit plugged in so I can use the real time, configurable, gauge package.

I know it's quite the list but it all works well together as a package. If you aren't having any problems with the DPF system (I had a terrible time with mine) then you can save some money and not do the delete. The difference in cash outlay on your part could be around $1200 to $1500 depending on shop rates and local pricing.

Good luck withe the mods.

Dear Maddog
Thoroughbred Diesel has several packages and I think I will start with the H&S mini maxx tuner and the Race pipes '4' inch , it will shut off the EGR with out removing it to start with Eventually I will get the full kit to remove it completely, Unless you have a shop recommendation in my area that will do it all as you did.

The H&S is a good choice for your truck. They look kinda spendy compared to the Edge units for your truck. Edge still makes a full delete unit, i.e., the CTS2. Of course, you also need tunes to go with the programmer.

I needed the unlock for my truck due to the PCM encryption and Edge had the best pricing on a programmer with a gauge package and the unlock integrated into a single unit.

The EGR delete kit is simple to install and doesn't take too much effort.

If you want to monitor EGT temps you'll need a probe installed and a programmer that will monitor the thermocouple signal.

I am not up on shops in your area as I am wayyyyy out here in Orygun.

Gerber knife country ..[Beaverton]
I ordered the Tuner but H&S would not cover any defects or product failures so he discouraged me from buying that one and the guys in KY suggest the Race-me Jr which was the one I ordered Will keep you informed on how that one works, not many now do full deletes according to Thoroughbred diesel

Maddog I hope you take advantage of the coastal elk herd and hunt them. I do miss that.

I have read some stopped supporting full deletes which is why I went with the CTS product and the EFI Live tunes.

I have some Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain elk meat in the freezer. I do take advantage, especially when I'm getting close to running out! LOL

Maddog I ordered the parts and ended up with a race me jr programmer and both Race pipes and a complete EGR delete . the programmer and 2 race pipes were $1075 and the EGR delete another $209 and it is drilled and tapped for the EGT probe. [Sinister Diesel] I will buy the Display next time I see one I like. The Raceme with full touch screen was way more $$$$$ I will tell everyone how this works out.

I have the tuner and pipes and wanted to ask is there anything I need to know taking the old exhaust
system off the truck ? I see that there are several [5] sensors and it looks like some of the stuff might be ugly to get off. Have to take the wheel well off to get at the bolts holding the pipe to the Turbo and such ? would it pay to just take my sawsall and hack a lot of it out of the way?

My pipes were clamped at all the joints so removing the DPF regen cannister and muffler was easy. I unplugged the sensors, taped up the open ends that stayed with the truck, then zip tied the harness up and out of the way.

Access to the turbo down pipe did have to happen through the wheelwell but that was easy.

If you aren't clamped at any of the connections then you'll probably want to sleeve and weld, or weld on flanges to bolt it up or roll the inside of the pipes to get a raised ring so you can clamp it. Straight clamping, with no rolling, might work with a little exhaust system sealing putty on both ends of the pipe.

Tell most folks to pay a shop to do the pipes. I pulled the exhaust but it took me 4 hours and I had to cut the down pipe in half instead of dropping the cross member ! [all alone] This programmer loaded first try and no problems. I put the towing economy program in and it runs with zero smoke! but lots more power. and to anyone thinking of doing this ! DO IT the computer MPG going to the shop was 14.1 mpg on the dash monitor and on the way home with the new program and pipes 21.1 mpg that looks like about 30% improvement driving the same way ! and take it easy on the gas because the first light I broke the tires free ! I will check the mileage the old way when I burn this take of fuel. It looks like I should be up around 18 or 19 mpg with a mix of Highway and city driving empty , Will let you know how the mileage is with the 5th wheel [10K lbs]

BTW IT is louder ! and I put the #2 tune in and Anyone who has not done their truck needs to do this. The power is unbelievable and the mileage goes up more than promised in my case with my very light foot close to 30% in some situations [ 50 mph on level ground] Won't know about towing until spring

Use tow haul mode and see how it does. Mine is awesome with the Tow tune, i.e., position 2 on my switch.

Well Maddog the truck is now full delete and boy what a job to get the EGR off. I actually had to go buy some more specialty wrenches Sinister looks good on the Intake ! I am not sure that it is making any difference with that change. around town getting 17 mpg and expect a bit better on the road

Yeah, around town mileage won't improve much. It's out on the highway that I really saw a difference.
