I’m in process on upgrading my head unit from the 5.0 to an aftermarket double din. I know most do the 8.4 swap but I’d rather go the after market route. I know there is a Metra double din adapter that just fills the gaps around the stock 5.0 opening and a double din. I have found a Scosche kit that replaces the bezel but you have to swap over the 8.4 style AC controls to the new bezel.

Brings me to my questions. First, has anybody done this or seen one of these kits installed? I’ll post a pic of the kit itself below. And secondly, if I did this whole swap and got the 8.4 bezel and AC controls, would I need the AC control module like is required for the 8.4 swap or would my stock one work? Thanks for the info.

Still wondering. Now I’m wondering if I’d need the ac module as well as the wiring harness from m2mods.

Yes you would have to convert all the hvac to the 8.4 style.

IMO go with the metra kit for the 5.0. If you dont like it you can always take some "filler" and fill in the "cracks" between the dash kit and the bezel.

I have the Metra double din kit in my 2018 currently. It is a very well made piece, however, I hate it because it has a raised ridge around the opening in the factory bezel that makes it hard to use the controls on my Pioneer stereo. I’m looking at the PAC Audio BKCDK656 as a potential replacement for the Metra kit because it appears to be more flush mounted. If that’s your issue with the Metra kit, might be worth looking into before dropping the hammer on that Scosche kit and all the associated wiring and other modifications.
