As far as I know that's it then. I wonder how noticeable of a change it would be on mine with 130k miles on it. My sister and her husband recently joined the Dodge family again when they found a 98 Durango with a 5.2L and a 44re transmission. The guys over on those forums already told them to get a shift kit for it. So I think we are going to have a transmission party. Lol

Shifty kits are a GREAT addition to these for longevity reasons let alone drivability.

One of the big things is they swap the manual valve for one that allows the trans to pump fluid whilst in park. Combine that with firmer shifts and you see much less wear

I put the transgo kit in my 96 2wd pace truck 20 years ago. If I have my foot right into it, it shifts right now instead of sliding through the gears. Draw back is if I don,t have my foot into. it shifts a bit rough.

Well, I guess thats decided. I'll invest in a shift kit. My only question now is would you guys recommend that one or a different one for my application. I don't haul trailers often, maybe once a year. It's more of a "get my ass to work" vehicle and occasionally i throw some stuff in the bed that won't fit in a car or SUV.

I literally put around (lol) in mine. Haul some stuff occasionally. Sometimes haul ass.

But mostly daily drive like a normal person. Sometimes it'll jar you, most times it's just a noticeable shift.

That firm shift it worth it for the reduction of wear and lower trans temps IMO

Shift kits reduce wear by shifting quicker (any pause between shifts causes wear) and the flow in Park like what was said previously.
Find the biggest piece of cardboard you can get to work on under the truck, no matter how much you let it drip into the pain, there always seems to be that last ounce that gets everywhere.

Learning about shift kits now...do you have to get a certain type for your transmission type?

Before I got my truck, the tranny was rebuild with a TransGo shift kit. Not sure the part number but I do like the firm, quick shifts. The transmission also seems to have an excellent "feel" for my throttle input, that is to say, it increasingly delays shifts the more throttle I give it. Granted, pretty much all automatics I've driven do that but I've always felt that my Ram had the most "precise" feel.
