So I traded my 14 sport in on a 16 Ram 2500 CC Laramie with the 6.4. Love the truck but my only complaint so far is looking at that ugly ass resonator in the rear wheel well. Although I like the sound of the exhaust system, I'm wondering if anyone has left the OEM muffler but got rid of the resonator. I'm thinking of bringing it to a shop and having the pipe replaced from the muffler back with a piece of stainless. Has anyone done this yet? I'm surprised that none of the big exhaust companies have made a delete pipe for it .

Yeah, I did that. It got a bit noisier and there's a bit of drone at around 1700 - 1800 RPM cruising on the freeway but it ain't bad.

The shop made up a piece of pipe for me and used some high temp paint to color it black. I don't even see it anymore.

Then I replaced the stock muffler with a Magnaflow and it sounds pretty darn good now.

I cut it off before I changed my muffler. I left it like that. Didn't add a pipe. Didn't change the sound or do anything.

I cut it off and just put a powder coated tip on it.

I cut mine off with sawsall as soon as I got it home from the dealer. Hated the way it looked! Very little change in sound. Gonna run true duels once the funds allow.

Thanks for the replies, I'm just concerned now with the drone. I've had plenty of Rams with Flowmaster, and Gibson exhaust systems in my younger days but can't handle the drone anymore. I was hoping that I could just get rid of the resonator and keep the factory exhaust. I would be ok with it a tad louder but can't handle the drone.

X2, and I told my 9500 to 10,000 lbs TT and still love it.

I'm in the same boat with my 2016 MC - I'd like to have a bit more sound, and the ugly resonator removed, but I don't want a ratty, pop and crack sound from having just a performance muffler, which to my knowledge, is what the resonator prevents.

All that being stated, I'm going to go with the Mufflex deal and try to cope with the resonator. But I do like the idea of painting it black to mask it a bit!

I decided to go ahead and buy the Magnaflow 19200 kit that includes a new resonator that can't be seen through the wheel well. It's all stainless with a stainless tip welded to the pipe. Just hope it's not too loud and no drone.

I have the 19200 kit, but also full length headers (catted). There is a mild amount of drone under load at freeway speeds. I'd imagine with the stock manifold, cats, etc., there would be much less if any. Will be curious to hear your impressions.

I really hope there's NONE. Had a couple of exhaust systems in a row on one of my rams that made me eventually go back to stock. The reason I went with this system is because it includes a resonator.

Drone is due to installation more than the exhaust.

So you just cut right behind the resonator and put that tip right on? Did you clamp it or weld it. I just bought the same tip and will be doing the same. Just wondering if i shpuld weld it to prevent it from getting loose. I hope drone is minimal since i have de mufflex delete straight pipe.

Everyone senses drone differently. I am sensitive to drone and personally can’t stand it. Then again I can tell instantly when my mds activates on my 6.4 from sound and feel. Some can’t. So it’s all user prefrence.

You must be talking about me bc I still haven't noticed when my MDS kicks on. Ill probably go the Magnaflow route also just bc I want a nice throaty sound but not crazy like a full custom exhaust

I know this is an old thread but I saw in a YouTube video that the tail pipe from the diesel is a direct fit to our pipe from the muffler back it just doesn’t include a resonator. I’m sure a diesel truck owner has one sitting in his garage somewhere that he thinks is trash to him.

Was your truck under factory warranty? If so does modding the exhaust change anything covered by the warranty?
