Just curious what kind of tricks (if any) are up the tuners sleeves with the hybrid etorque technology...

I doubt this is even a thought in tuners minds right now. You would first have to crack a whole new ECU, which will probably take a few years to do.

I’ll be placing my order for a ‘19 on Monday. I’m intrigued by the E-Torque and I’m interested in what the forum thinks about this feature. I’m currently in a ‘14 with the 5.7, which has been a great truck.

I’m a bit leery about jumping on a feature like E-Torque in the first year of introduction. So, what do y’all think - should I or shouldn’t I? I’d love to hear your reasoning on it.

Its nothing really new in terms of technology its just new to Ram. I cant afford a new truck but I wouldnt hesitate to get it. I run a dealership and usually new to vehicle tech in terms of power trains arent an issue. Its almost always software that ruins a new vehicle.

It may not be new technology, but it's a new implementation of it. Most hybrids put the motor coupled with the trans, this one puts it directly on the engine. Interesting way to do it.

Still, I'm always a bit leery of jumping on a first year of any vehicle. Yes, I have an '09, but I bought it well after it came out and proved itself.

How did you order with eTorque? The dealer I’m talking to + others say it is not yet available for ordering.

Do you plan on keeping the truck for 2 or 3 years and trading again, or keeping it long term? If you plan on trading again in a few years, go for it. Long term, stay away. I bet the battery pack for that thing behind the rear seat is expensive. I hope that it doesn't overheat and burn down the truck too.

Interesting. Haven’t thought about it from that perspective. Do you think that “battery pack” will be covered under Dennis Dillon’s complimentary lifetime warranty?[emoji6] maybe I should actually ask the dealer that. I plan on keeping it long term!

If you can get that in writing, that would be excellent. The batteries, no matter the quality, will eventually degrade. They can make them degrade slower with higher quality units, but then they are more expensive, so its a trade off between the engineers and the bean counters (just like anything else).

Thanks for the information. I’m certainly going to try this approach and get it in writing, haha. Now you wouldn’t have any idea of when the eTorque system will be available, do you?

FWIW - sales manager of dealer I’m working with called his factory contact and was told July. Which could also mean it may be some time before we get EPA and performance data.

If you look at the first Chevy Volts they have 3 battery packs and it cost more to replace them that what the car is worth now.

I love the instant torque hybrids have so I would think this would be a great feature and I would order it before the air suspension as I think that is way more worrisome than E-torque will be.

My personal opinion is I would never buy a hybrid of any type. Lease one maybe, but not buy. Hybrids are almost as bad as computers, as soon as you walk out the door with you're purchase it's antiquated as new and better technology is coming out every day, and there you are with an antique.

It looks like the unit is bolted to the engine block of the 3.6, so I wonder if you can take it off? The 5.7 goes on top, i bet you can swap a pulley and a new belt, and tune out the E-torque.

Don't forget the alternator you'd need to swap in. It replaces the alternator on the 5.7.

I thought E torque was an option. If you don't want it don't buy a truck with it on there.
