I recently bought a used 2002 1500 Quad Cab. Before I even took it off the lot, and after the test drive, everything was not working (It was working during the test drive). Let me run down the list that was not working:

Instrument Cluster (Red Security Light remained solidly lit)
Turn Signals ( and 4way Hazard)
Brake Lights
Headlight Switch
Dome/Map lights
Power Door Locks

The truck still started up, power windows worked as did the radio and HVAC. The Headlights & Taillights came on automatically about 2 seconds after starting the truck, but no brake lights or turn signals. (It's been over a week and I can't remember anything else).

Now, the dealer said "We will make it right" and kept the truck. 2 days later I was told that they sent off the Instrument Cluster to have it rebuilt. I told them it has to be the security, because the Instrument Cluster doesn't control everything else, so it has to be either the Grey Key, the Ignition or both. 10 days later, and I still don't have the truck back.

So my question is, who is correct, me or the dealer?

The door locks and dome lights are controlled through the instrument cluster. The exterior lighting is controlled through the front control module. Sounds like you may have multiple problems. The dome lights are not dependent on ignition switch input, nor are the exterior lights. My thinking is that the dealer is trying to tackle your problem one issue at a time.

That's what I was afraid of. But could the security factor into it at all? This truck has both SKIM & VTSS, I found that out not long ago today.

A SKIM malfunction would result in a no start issue and should not affect lighting or door locks. VTSS issues could cause some lighting issues, but they are usually a flashing light problem.

Okay, then I was not correct with my thinking. Thank you for your help.
