What are your thoughts on this? Aside from needing to be serviced (even oil changes) by a dealer or ASE shop, it looks pretty good. Of course, I've never had any luck with any kind of warranty, guarantee, etc outside of the factory stuff...

Are you talking about the Mopar Maximum Care Lifetime? Do a search here or on Google - there are some good threads on it.

You can't change your own oil on it? That might be a deal breaker for me :/

If you're past the point that doing any mod's to your truck that would "void" your warranty and depending on how long your going to keep your truck and the number of miles your drive, it might be a good deal. There are so many electronic gadgets and computers on these new truck that the cost of one of them would almost pay for your warranty if it went haywire. I don't keep trucks long enough so it really wouldn't be attractive to me, but everyone has their own circumstances.

What Pull Ya said. Basically the consensus is that they can be worth it but certainly only if you keep the truck for a long time. The lesser term warranties (up to 8 years) carry the same protection but are actually transferrable one time for a $50 fee. So you can sell the truck and the new owner gets the remainder of the warranty.

FYI the lowest quote I've gotten for Lifetime Max Care with $100 deductible is around $2750. You can buy the warranty from any dealer anywhere. The other deductible levels are not worth it. $200 deductible is only a couple hundred cheaper, and the $0 deductible is crazy expensive.

I liked my Dakota enough to keep it for 20 years, only 60k but the paint is bad from sitting outside. Since I retired Jan '11, I've only put 2500 miles on it so the Ram should be long-term. Unless I find something I like better, it may be my last truck. I'm at the age where I'd rather pay somebody to work on it so's I don't trash my back more than it is...

My last was an '02 Dakota that I had since new in 2001. 17 years and 166k miles was not a bad run (and it was still going just fine when I traded it).

Search for Clay Robbins on here.....I don't have his new email address.

He'll get you a better deal on it.

This "Forever Warranty" deal is completely free as long as one owns the truck and abides by their rules. It is not transferable however, so when you sell, the warranty disappears. This is something completely new to me and sounds too good to be true. I haven't read the fine print yet, so it prolly voids with any and all mods or work not preformed by an ASE shop. Still pondering on this, seems it's there after the factory warranty runs out, but it only kicks in *if* you have followed their rules for the duration of the factory warranty period...

Who is offering this? I assume you're not talking about the Chrysler/Mopar warranty then?

My dealer has something similar. "Lifetime power train warranty", for free! As long as I pay them for every x-mile required service and possibly for some non manufacturer specified services. And have the truck inspected by them every 5 years

So basically I pay into their service to get a " free " warranty.

I keep my vehicles for a long time so I purchased maxcare lifetime. My truck isn't my primary vehicle so I wouldn't put many miles on it... Making the 7 or 8 year maxcare options not the best choice for me.

Our local dealer is offering it, I thought it was a national thing. Was gonna attach a pic of it, but I guess I don't have enough posts yet. Also, how does one create an album? I could find no way to do that?

Anyway: www.warrantyforever.com has the scoop...

I just figured out how they get you from their FAQ:

Code:
What if my vehicle is equipped with an oil change light/indicator reminder system?

Recommended maintenance will need to be performed when your indicator signals
you for maintenance, but cannot exceed a routine oil change frequency of every
six (6) months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first. If your manufacturer requires
the use of synthetic or synthetic blend oil, please refer to your Warranty Forever®
agreement for servicing details. For complete details regarding all required
maintenance, see your Warranty Forever® agreement. If you have any further
questions, please contact a Pre-Authorization Specialist at 1-800-810-8458.

So, two oil changes a year minimum at God knows what dealerships charge for this. Then the rest of the qualifiers they throw out there that one could easily overlook and thus get booted for...

I just replaced the engine on a truck with 368,000 miles on it. The truck is pretty trashed as it runs the oil field lease roads all day every day. If you are going to keep the truck, and are willing to make sure follow their rules, it's worth the money.

And what about the 50,000 mile diff and transfer case service, and the transmission service.

Seems a pretty steep price for a simple power train warranty. Power train warranties never make much fiscal sense. Something like maxcare, which is a bumper to bumper type, makes a lot of sense as by far most of the expensive issues with these trucks are not power train related.

I would run away from warranty forever as fast as I could. These guys are selling oil change service contracts.

Yup, that's my take. :nono: And it wouldn't kick in until after the 6/60 factory warranty runs out. Keep in mind it's free *if* one does all that's req'd through the first 6/60 period. I'm sure FW.com has checks to tell if you fail to comply with their "terms" and will automatically void the deal. Or possibly offer you a "deal" price to reinstate. I think I'll take my chances with the std 6/60, can't see getting $100 oil changes on oil with 500 - 1000 miles use... :Insane:

Yep my dealer worked the same...its "free", so if I void it, oh well. I just didnt even bother thinking I would really get it and didnt care to make it an issue of where/when to buy the truck.

Funny thing, though....when we were negotiating on price, the dealer offered to meet my price (which was 200 less than his) if I decided to make the deal "without our lifetime powertrain warranty". So I guess the warranty is worth 200.00 to them.
