??? You take the parts needed off of your old motor, and put them on the new shortblock. Hence why they sell short blocks.

Sometimes you can...but if I am gonna go to the effort of putting a 6.4 in, I am not gonna choke it's power down by using the 5.7 heads, intake, and exhaust on it.

If you read the add, it is assuming you already HAVE a 6.4 to pull parts off of...so I'm not even sure if you can use the 5.7 stuff.

The OP has a 5.7, not a 6.4.

It's been done, all the accessories from the 5.7 fit the 6.4.

Awesome! I wonder if the 6.4 heads and intake are different than the 5.7 flow wise though?

Yes they are, and the valve sizes are different, as well as the combustion area.

To use a 6.4 head on a 5.7 block, you have to notch the block for the valves.

The other way (5.7 on a 6.4), the bore of the combustion chamber will be inside the bore of the cylinder and will require special head gaskets.

Hey folks. I’m just curious and planning for the future should anything happen. I’m trying to find out what the cost would be roughly. I’m either gonna get a 3rd party warranty or roll the dice on the motor etc...

I googled many combinations of wording and nothing comes up. I searched in here and “new engine” “replacement engine” etc yields nothing.

I have a 2017 matted to a 8 speed of it matters.

Mods: EGR matte black bug deflector, Westin HDX drop steps, rough county bull bar with 20” LED, custom made NW seat covers in real tree camo, husky liner mats, husky liner mud guards, undercover LUX tonneau cover, Tailgate assist, flowmaster super 40 with resonators, tinted 15% front, LED C shaped tail lights.

When I priced out a replacement 6.4 at my local dealer here in Alberta it was under 7,000 Canuck, and i'm pretty sure the 5.7 is closer to 6,000 Canuck, and I would think another 2500 should cover the cost of install.

Thanks for this info. Guess when i decide to buy a 6.4 forged stroker, I will add 6.4 heads and intake also.

The only way I would is to sell the 5.7 stroker that I have to buy the 6.4. & 426 stroker set up. So I will prob. just settle for the 392 Stroker. Not a bad compromise. LOL What ever way I go, I already have a twin turbo ready to add.

I sent my 8 speed to level 10 transmissions and they are building it with the torque converter. Warrantied to 1000 HP. I am using that one because it is the one that came with the truck.

So let me get all this straight, you have an 08 Truck, with the newer 5.7 engine that’s stroked to a 6.4, and you have an 8 speed trans? This is all going in your 2008 truck?

No the built motor came out of my 08. I want to put it in my 13. The 13 has the 8 speed trans. I have found a guy who says he can tune it in the 13. That has been my obstacle at this point. My confusion between the whole VVT vs MDS. It looks like I can get around it, but I will have to do some more research. All the new tech. stuff is nice and you get more power with less fuel. But I am used to the old 383, 440, and 340. You did not have to worry about all this ****. I might be better off finding someone who has an 08 that wants a very nice built 5.7 and start over with a 6.4 that will go in the 13

How much did the level 10 rebuild cost ya? I am trying to figure out if the 8 speed will be able to be swapped into my 2010 ram. Hopefuly you can sell the 5.7 stroker and use that money to build the 426!
