Getting ready to install my stainless JBA shorty headers. For those of you that have shorty headers installed did you have any issues with header heat on any of the hoses, wires or plastic?

I'm debating going through the trouble of using DEI header wrap on them or just throwing them in. I'd prefer to just toss them in if it won't be an issue. The insulation on header wrap usually never lasts a long time and starts to look pretty crappy after awhile.

Let me know if you guys have had any issues or if you are running them no issues!

Just installed JBA shorties and I did have some melting of a loom too close on the driver's side.

I ziptied it back further and expect it to be fine though.

They definitely put off some heat so I'll be watching things closely for a while. I'd hate to wipe out a bundle of wires and have to patch everything up.

I'd wrap them, not only does it help with saving any wiring or plastic lines in the vinicity of the headers, but it helps keep heat in the pipes which keeps velocity up,and helps promote scavenging. If you decide to wrap them, soak the wrap in a bucket of water first, the **** is nasty to work with, and if it's wet,it's a lot nicer to work with. Contary to popular myths you're stainless JBA's won't rust out by being wrapped.

My understanding is that titanium wrap doesn't need to be wetted, but glass fiber wraps should be. Thoughts?

That DEI titanium wrap is JUNK! I dropped over $200 on their turbo blanket and wrap and in about 500miles it was disintegrating on one of my 700hp turbo cars. Was thoroughly dissapointed. I still have the pictures somewhere of how bad it fell apart. I should dig them up for you guys

I thought the go-to for headers was to ceramic coat them? For heat retention purposes, as well as oxidation.

It doesn't last all that long for a lot of guys. My buddy spent around 500 bucks getting his JBA's coated and it didn't last 6 months before it started flaking off.

I'd guess it might of had something to do with the heat you were generating. My JBA's have been wrapped with DEI's titaninium wrap for over 2 years and it's holding up good. By product of horsepower is heat, the more power you generate, the hotter the exhaust is going to run,and if you were actually putting down 700 rwhp, you're exhaust between the header and turbo would probably of been damn near cherry red from heat if you looked at it after dark when you were laying into the boost. My old 68 Camaro with a 671 Dyers blower would turn the headers cherry red after dark if you were laying into it hard and it was building boost. You're not gonna build that kind of heat with a naturally aspirated bolt-on 5.7

I agree, that sucks and all, but your setup was probably too much for that wrap to handle and apples to oranges application comparrison lol. Can't blame you for having the perspective based on your experience though.

Typically is... But the ceramic coating by no means makes them cool. In hindsite, I would have wrapped my ceramic headers, just to help more. Probably overkill to do both, but I'd imagine it would help even more and I tend to do things overboard lol.

So contrary to 90% of whats out there for info on ceramic coating, the consensus is that there's no need to coat aftermarket headers for our trucks? I understand boosted trucks are gonna generate a little more heat. But for NA its a waste?

Looks like you bought yourself a project John, lol. Now that you're putting boost to it,i'd be even more inclined to wrap the headers. Good luck with the blower install, keep us up to date on how the install goes.

Couldn't tell you.About all I know is he was mad as hell about it,and pulled his headers off and wrapped them instead.
I also know Charonblks/Kurtis's ceramic coating on his ARH's didn't last very long either on his supercharged truck, and he ended up wrapping his ARH's too.

Radiant heat from my new JBA Shortys, is something I've not given any thought. I'm going out in a minute and make sure nothing that could melt, will melt.

So far, I'm very pleased with my JBAs. I may be nuts, but I think the truck runs smoother, and at least as quiet. I think there's a little more giddy-up, as well.

Edited: I looked under the hood.... on the driver's side, the steering rod boot is about 1.5" away from a header tube. That's a little closer than I like, but if the boot melts, no biggie. But on the passenger side, the heater hose was about a half an in h from one of the header tubes. I can't belIeve a precessional mechanic would let the truck go out the door like that. I tied the hoses back about 3 inches. Other than that, I see no issues.

I have 1" DEI titanium header wrap and stainless ties but I've been staring at these pretzels for awhile trying to come up with a tactic on how to wrap them lol. Most runners are touching eachother or not even enough to slide a piece of paper through. I could wrap them but it won't be consistent nor pretty.

Had this happen to my twin turbo piping when i moved up north. It was jett hot coated, and wrapped. The wrap got wet and held the moisture. Pipes rusted under the wrap, and on unwrapped sections the jett hott coating all peeled off from the salt on the roads im guessing. Only drove the car one time in less than an inch of snow to the store because my truck was down.

Alright I finally started wrapping my JBA shorties last night. Bit of strategic planning but it is coming out AMAZING with the DEI 1" titanium wrap. I'll be posting up a complete video on the job in about a week but I needed to order more wrap. I used about a 50' roll on one side so to do the job you'll need (2) 50'x1" rolls.
