I've racked up 21k miles in 10 months and have done two oil changes.
I used RP at 7.5k and 15k. When are you guys changing your oil 6 months or 15k? Since I changed my gears from the stock 3.42 to 4.30's I purchased a case of Amsoil gear oil and while I was at it bought 3 gallons of engine oil for the next change. Is it really ok to stretch out the oil changes to 6 months or 15k miles or is that just of you don't use the truck?

I'd go 15K. My buddy is putting less than 10K miles in a year on his truck. I've done his oil change twice and we use Valvoline Synthetic that is certified by Cummins.

His 2014 has almost 25K miles now.. Going to have himself a gem of a limited Mega cab in 10 years. LOW Miles and it's going to be worth a ton. Lucky. haha

Cummins/Ram doesn't even specify using a synthetic oil for the 6 month/15K mile oil change interval. If your using a full synthetic, your selling yourself short on changing the oil before then.
Cummins does recommend using a full synthetic oil(5W-40) when operating in below 0°F weather.

I was assured by the service mgr (at the dealership) where I bought my 2017 Ram.
That my engine had a FF of Valvoline Premium Extreme Blue 5W-40 & when I bring my new Ram in for its first 4 OCI / They will use Rotella T6 5W-40.

Now how do I know? I asked!
Whether or not do I believe what I was told? That is probably in the same retrospect of Do We all believe what our Government tells Us?

I decided to post this here even though I know most don’t care to discuss oil or fuel additives.

At 2240 miles did my first OCI with The JUDGE
Wanted to get those initial break-in wear metals out of there. Especially after (2) 345 mile 12lb towing adventures.

Removing the oil filter through the fender well was a little bit intimidating but with the right tools it was only a small challenge.
Had a small mess but that was my fault not the tools. Didn’t have the filter cap screwed on tight enough.

This will be a 1 year OCI since I don’t put more then 8K miles a year on her. Basically just follow the OLM from here on out.
