I’ve also noticed that when U measure my stock tires with a tape, they only measure out to 32”. I’m wondering if the Falkens and the Nittos will actually measure to 33”
Yeah, my KO2s are supposed to measure 34 but actual measurement with a tape measure is 33

First I’m glad you recognize rolling mass, that’s light years above many others here. The weight added is exponential based on the tire size. So stock tire size say you add 2 pounds you wouldn’t notice. Not that you can get a 2 inch taller at that same 2 pounds it takes a lot more force to spin it.

That being said a few pounds at stock height will be hard to gauge. A few pounds oversized and it ads up quickly. It’s hard to say how much will you notice but when you upsize 8 pounds per tire is a lot.

Get tires you love, no matter what they are going to affect your truck, keep them light don’t go too crazy and let the transmission do it’s job keeping your acceleration and save weight on width if you can. I went 11.5 to save 7 pounds per tire

Should I be more concerned about weight or going taller/wider or will all things have equal negative effect?

I know that when I went from the17’s to the 20’s I was really disappointed for the one day I drove it before the flash fixed things. I don’t want to go bigger and get the same effect and not be able to correct it.

No expert, but I will tell you this... I had the original factory Goodyear Wranglers SR-A's and the truck felt good. I picked up a set of Sumitomo Encounter HT's about 3 weeks ago to replace the Goodyear's. They were like 5 lbs heavier per tire but they road really good! Soft plush ride, silent on the highway, loved them, but I DID feel a difference in the truck feeling sluggish on takeoff, felt like it worked harder on the highway and mileage dropped.

Fast forward to last week, belt slipped in one of the Sumi's. Shop replaced it and that one couldn't be balanced. Road force balancing couldn't stop the highway vibration. Worried about quality, long term durability, so I used their %100 refund and the shop gave me 3 recommendations. Checked Consumer Reports and Firestone Destination LE2's were #3 and said "good" for rolling resistance. Interesting tidbit = Tire Rack have the Sumitomo Encounter HT's as a TOP rated tire. Consumer Reports rates them at the bottom!

Fresh set of Firestone Destination LE2's and the truck had pep back in it's step. Quiet, good ride but the truck feels like it rolls out easier. It also feels like glides farther and easier when I let off the gas. The Firestone is 4lbs heavier than stock and the Sumi's were 5lbs. Not scientific, but this tells me that rolling resistance plays a bigger roll then I expected. I think a bad combination of rolling resistance and upsizing with a larger tire could add up more than you think.

ALSO! This makes the second time I purchased a highly rated Tire Rack tire that was garbage! This is also the 2nd time I paid for a month member ship from Consumer Reports and THEIR tire rating was NOT garbage. So... If there's a tire your interested in, I would be happy to look it up for you and or compare it with others and show you what they say since I'm paid for the month with them.

Both will have an effect, weight has to be spun, height effectively changes the gear ratio. Both an have similar effects and compound them for even more fun!

Thanks. I’m going to stick with the stock size. Now I have to choose between adding 8lbs per or 3lbs per.

8 pounds isn’t a lot, but if your astute you will feel it, but slightly. Spend the money once and get the ones you like.

Great, thank you. This is exactly why I posted. For others wisdom. I am looking at the Falken Wildpeak at3’s (+8lbs) and the Nitto Terra Grappler g2’s (+3lbs). Both in stock 275/60/20 size. The Falkens are cheaper.

They didn't have anything on the Terra Grapplers but I compared them to the Michelin LTX A/T2's which appear to be the best and the Yokohama Geolander A/T G015's which also seem really popular. Wrangler Trail Runner A/T and Nexen Roadian AT Pro RA8 also ranked the same at the Wildepeaks. 20180520_031114.jpg

Thanks! Much appreciated! Going to tire shop tomorrow to see if there are any others that jump out at me.

What’s better than a Recommended rating on C R?

I'm not sure who's better... I just know that 2 times now I have followed Tire Rack, Discount Tire and others highly recommended tires and was disappointed. Bridgestone owns Firestone now, so I trusted them and got the Destination LE2's. Cooper owns Mastercraft and I had great luck with Mastercraft Courser HSX but nobody carries them here. Sumitomo and Falken are the same company but I hope the Falken is higher end. And maybe I just got a couple bad ones and it was a fluke, who knows.

I actually considered the Yokohama Geolander g015 because they have that tough beefy look of the all terrains but the guys at the tire place said they were quieter and rode better than most. A look at the employee side of the parking lot showed some proof. There were 4 trucks out there with the Geolanders and I see them in town a lot.

Loved my Nitto G2 tires, they are heavy. Ran them 58k miles and still not at wear bars, 2 weeks ago stepped over to the Ridge Grappler also heavy but man they last

The g2’s were the lightest stock size ATs I came across at 43 lbs.

I liked the cooper Zeons too. In the stock 275/60/20 size they measured slightly bigger than the rest both height and width and came in at 47lbs. Any CR reports on them?

I have a Hemi, but noticed a huge difference when going to a heavy, larger tire. So much so that i sold them with just a couple hundred miles on them and went back to a stock size. That was a E range MT tire, but it was crazy how much of a dog the truck was with them.

I may have glossed over them, but i would recommend looking into Hankook ATMs. Ive had them on 2 vehicles now and im liking them. I still get good mileage and they handle great. MIght be worth looking at.
