I recently had to change out my cam and all lifters also changed out pushrods , rocker arms are tight however upon starting there is a sound that I thought was a constant lifter tap it is present at idle and all the way through acceleration, when I let off on the gas and the ECO/MDS kicks in the noise goes away and instantly returns when the gas pedal is applied..at a loss with what is happening and ideas ?

Pull the valve covers and check the rocker arms. R u sure u got the correct length pushrods? If everything checks good there then u have a bad lifter more than likely

Yes the pushrods are correct, I am wondering if It is a valve guide. Lifters are new

Yes I did...If it were the lifters would the noise not be constant?? The noise goes away when slowing down or when the ECO/MDS kicks in

If I'm not mistaking the lifter is what disengages the the cylwnders to be inactive. So if u don't hear it when deceleration or mds occuures then I would think one or more of the inactive lifters would be causing the noise. Just a guess but I would think it would have to be something u just changed if u didn't have it before.

Have you pulled the valve covers? Could be a bent pushrod if it wasn’t seated properly into the lifter. I’ve seen that happen before.

It was ticking ..so I put new pushrods in , and double checked to ensure they were seated properly

Pulled the valve covers and found play on the rocker arm and valve stem only on the ones that are MDS lifters. The rest are tight

Well that is definitely the noise. I would pull them out and make sure they are not bent. Other than that I'm not sure why they would be loose

Not sure either unless the rocker arms are wore out..but idk cause it is only on the ones with MDS ..thinking about putting in 6.1 pushrods to see if that will tighten everything up

How loose are we talking? If the cam is on the base circle for that cylinder the rocker will have a slight amount of side to side movement.

You're probably already aware but the MDS lifters have different length pushrods than the non-MDS. Just throwing it out there ;)

They’re not actually, the intake and exhaust push rods are different lengths. Wether it is a mds lifter or not has no effect on push rod length.

My bad and thank you for the correction. Maybe some of the intake/exhaust pushrods are mixed up?

Correct..Thank you also there is no side to side movement ..it is up and down a good 1/16 of an inch between the rocker arm and the valve tip
