New to the ram world and trucks in general and was wondering how I would know what type of trailer wiring kit I need to install a 4-flat setup. I have a 2002 ram 1500 SLT 4x4 and it has a trailer hitch and a cutout where the connector would go into the bumper. I have heard many people say that wiring to the brake lights can cause electrical problems down the road. Is there a way to know if I have a preset place to just basically plug and play.

Would this piece here be sufficient.
or is there another piece that would fit my ram better.
I am somewhat mechanical and can do most simple things along with electrical (wired speaker systems in cars before)

Look under your bumper first, most 3rd gen 1/2 tons that didn't come with the factory towing package came with a 4 flat in the harness already; mine did. I ended up adding a 7 pin to it.

I could have sworn I had checked before but looked again and saw it.
Thanks!
