Just checked my filter this past weekend, I don't recall seeing anything like that.

I noticed that on my 18 Hemi. I figured it was just an extra layer of filtration but I wasn’t sure why. I don’t have to worry about it no more because I put the Mopar CAI kit on.

Drill those little rivets out and remove it. That or place a wanted add here for a stock upper lid, bet you can get one cheap

I like it pretty good. It was a little on the pricy side but it was sure easy to hook up. Its kinda like it was made to go in there...[emoji41]

It’s fairly quiet too. It’s got a little bit of that intake sound but not like that K&N i had on the old Hemi. And its a dry filter. As far as whether or not it’s helping on gas or power, that I don’t really know but pretty much the main reason I buy a reusable filter or kit is for the sake of not having to buy new filters all the time.

There’s probably a little bit better, cheaper alternatives out there in the aftermarket but I chose this one primarily because of my lifetime warranty...lol. I figured there’d be less hassle that way with a corporate part.

Oh and the other thing... I’ll probly never do it myself but if you ever wanted to put that Ram-air kit on, you just take that silver cover off and the hood directs the air right to it. 55a8eff10fa2d0ce6d6bc26a404c1fbd.jpg

I don't think my "hood vents" are actual. I think they are just for looks.????

I wonder if the Mopar ram air kit is still the same for 2018. Gonna look into it. Otherwise I might see if the lid from a 2017 will fit.

I don't think it's a filter at all. I think it's for sound deadening and air direction. If the air is allowed to just bounce around in that hollow upper, it will be "loud" and have no direction. That screen can slow and direct the air, making for a more laminar flow and a quieter intake.

That’s kinda what I thought. Although my new Mopar intake is still fairly quiet for the most part, I can’t imagine the stock box being much louder to the point of needing a type of resonator. I think it’s just more of an extra layer of filtration.

A filter that's not meant to be changed? I don't think so. They do a lot of things that seem minuscule, but when you add them all together, they "can" make a significant difference in the overall carbon footprint. Active grille comes to mind. It's basically a dog & pony show for the gov to say "look how concerned we are, we do stupid **** like this to satisfy your incessant desire to restrict us" haha

I work at a Toyota part supplier factory and we make these filters in another department in the plant. I don’t personally make these filters but I do know they are fererally mandated to have them. There should be a stamp or an engraving marked hc on the side of the box.

It's a gov't tracking device conveniently disguised as some form of filter. Now they can track your every move and your whereabouts at all times...….

They already do that, the trucks gps records every movement. I really don’t know that but I just realized that my phone has been recording my every movement for over a year without me even knowing, wtf! Apparently in google maps there’s a feature that does that. I turned that **** off quickly, can they do that without permission or maybe I hit ok on a pop up and didn’t know it, idk!

Turn off location services on your phone. Or keep an old phone, that works for me :angry94:

That the f’ed up part, it is alway off. Gonna go back to flip phone. I saw this nice looking rugged work flip phone made by CAT that I might check out.
