Have a shop discharge and recharge the system for you.
Depending on why/how the compressor failed, you may be able to get away with just replacing it and the accumulator (which should always be done when the system is opened and is usually required to validate the compressor warranty). If the compressor failed and contaminated the system with debris, much more work will be required.
As far as the actual compressor replacement it is super easy. Just take off the belt, unbolt the lines from the compressor (after you've had it discharged) , disconnect the electrical connections, unbolt the compressor and remove. When you install the new one, make sure it sits flat on the bracket before bolting it down. If it doesn't sit flat, the bracket is warped and you'll need to shim the compressor mounts or replace the bracket. If you just bolt the compressor to a warped bracket, it'll twist the body of the compressor and make it leak and/or fail.
