I recently bought a 2016 Ram 1500 as a CPO. Once I got it home I realized that the exhaust was not OEM and the dealer did not disclose this, even though I asked the salesman specifically. He said everything on the truck was OEM. On the CPO checklist they checked off exhaust and interior noise level as meeting FCA guidelines. There was a statement on the ckecklist that stated that all non OEM components must be disclosed in a notes section. Do I have grounds to get the exhaust replaced? Does this void the CPO certification?

It will not affect the CPO. I think the first question is what is the issue with it not being OEM? I'm sure you probably could argue it after the fact that they lied, or were mistaken, but what's the big deal really?

Maybe it was cut to be straight pipe and he cannot vouch for the quality of the weld, etc? Or, just maybe, some people dont like the aftermarket growl some exhausts create. I am not one of those people, but if I am told specifically something is something and its in writing, unless its an upgrade I want, I would probably mention it. To each their own!

Could also cause issues later on, if they claim it was OEM, and then accuse the current owner of putting aftermarket parts on that somehow caused a problem.

Who buys a truck without test driving it. If you don't like the sound, don't buy it. The welds argument is moot, it has a CPO warranty, which is better than the factory warranty. All he has to do is take it to them, and show them it's on the truck as he purchased it to avoid future warranty issues ( or possible ones ). The ONLY reason he would need to argue is he hates the sound, if he hates the sound, then it's his own damn fault for purchasing it. Otherwise, stop trying to look for a problem that doesn't exist. The exhaust, just like the drive train has a warranty, regardless of if it's aftermarket. If i'm not mistaken ,the exhaust is part of the powertrain warranty, so he's got 100k warranty on it.

But he can't just say it was on there when he bought it, the paperwork says it is OEM.

Unless he can get them to change the paperwork.

If he just bought it why not just go back to the dealership and talk to them about it.... Do you not like the sound of the muffler or reasoning for even questioning it???

Just go back to the dealer and show them what you found. Make sure they document and get a copy.

I bought a 2014ram 2500 4x4 without driving it. Heck. I don’t even get to really look inside cause the keys were mia. But...... it’s been great so far. Had one bearing replaced no biggie. However I might never do that again. It was nerve wracking for the first bit. :Stupid Me:

Hey everyone, thanks for all the input. I realized the exhaust was not OEM when I purchased the truck, however after a few long trips I couldn't stand the tone in the cab. I crawled under to take a better look and it turns out what I had was nothing more than a muffler delete and not an aftermarket exhaust. This bothered me so my argument was that they didn't disclose it or properly document it. I talked to the dealer and they did try to charge me $600 in labor, but after discussing it more they replaced the full exhaust at no charge.
