Hey everyone.

So here's the deal. My 2013 Laramie has been an awesome truck. Love it more than any other vehicle I've ever owned. Except for..... yeah you guessed it, the air suspension, which has been nothing but problems.

Bought new, it was great in year one. After that it made trip after trip after trip to the dealership to have suspension work done.

Work done:

1st trip - control module needed to be replaced
2nd trip - Low nitrogen levels, low ride
3rd trip - Air suspension froze up and remained in entry/ exit mode - compressor replacement
4th trip - Low nitrogen levels, low ride
5th trip - Rear air bag replacement - Compressor replacement

Current issues: Low nitrogen levels, blown compressor fuse.

Outside of the airbag and compressor replacements, the dealership has purged and leak tested the system, with no leaks found. And of course like all other trucks that have air suspension problems, these issues really only present themselves in cold weather when the temps are below -10 (14F).

So my question is this. What are my options outside of buying a new truck.

Can I:

A) Replace the air suspension with a traditional coil & Strut system? Some people say its doable but provide no solid solutions, others say its not possible.
B) Upgrade the system to something aftermarket that's more reliable?
c) Open to your suggestions. Nothing is off the table at this point, other than selling the truck, or spending $8,000 on replacing the system with another stock air suspension system.

Any input is GREATLY appreciated.

I have a 2017 Longhorn with the same problem. I'd suspect you get rid of it and never buy air ride again.

This is not very practical but an idea would be to remove the heat shield in the back by the compressor during extreme cold times and let the truck fully warm up till you use the air suspension. This would allow the exhaust to heat the pump. I would bet the extreme cold is killing the compressor. Another idea would be to change the oil in the compressor to something more suited to extreme temps. Is parking the truck in a heated garage an option? If parking outside in the cold do not leave the truck in entry/exit mode. The rear bags deflate quite a bit and this could cause a problem with falling temps at night. Also maybe a plug in heater like from a nitrous bottle to keep the two tanks warm maybe even the pump. Pumping really cold Nitrogen is probably not easy for the pump. Also maybe pulling the relay for the air ride at night so the pump does not try to adjust at night. When the cold season starts having the dealer check the nitrogen levels in the tanks might not be a bad idea. Once summer comes the tanks will let off the excess by themselves. Just some ideas to consider.

Airbags seem like a real PITA in the long run and are they really that beneficial on a 1500?

Ive seeing in the other forum than yes, you can get rid of the air BS for a normal suspension.

air suspension sucks on pretty much everything where it runs, is not an issue only with RAM's, check the Jeep GC forums, or Land Rovers, it's great when it works otherwise a POS expensive feature to fix when the warranty doesn't cover it.

Found the thread, hope is ok to link to the other forum

The OP in that thread replaced his air ride with the Rancho QL, and TTC 1223 springs in the back, the cool thing about it he's got a big damn bumper in the front of the truck, and the Ranchos are holding the weight just fine, so i'll be looking for a front bumper with a winch next :)
