Isn't there a 1,000 page thread on this in the 4th gen forum? Figuring the motors are exactly the same - this should just link over there.

Yeah, but you see hammerhead started this one and alot on the other thread think all he's doing is promoting that rat54 blog. It don't really matter to me one way or the other, I read it all and take all of it with a grain of salt. Ya know, it is the internet.

Commercial interests motivate owners to obsess over oil choice decisions (big money is made from oil analysis, specialty synthetics, speciality filters).

What these interests don't want owners to know is that plain and inexpensive CONVENTIONAL oil can prevent heavy wear and deposits for up to ONE MILLION MILES.

Proof: teardown of 1,000,000 mile 2007 Tundra V8 that ran 5W-30 conventional oil changed every 5,000 miles: http://www.trucktrend.com/how-to/project-trucks/1705-million-mile-tundra-the-tear-down/

If u change your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months it doesn’t matter, save your money, on saying that people my think because I do is a waste of money, well all the vehicles I’ve owned the oil was aways clean and I only had to do one rebuild on a 1974 Plymouth Scamp that had 320,000 miles on it so the F with expensive synthetic oil, if u got the cash and it give u peace of mind go for it

Oil Filter Defect Alert!!!!!!

Wix XP Part number 57045XP

While changing my oil I was spinning on my new oil filter and noticed it was wobbling as it was spinning on. The Nut portion of the oil filter that screws onto the engine block was Not straight and Inline with the oil filter housing. Causing it to spin on crooked, resulting in a bad seal. I didn't even try to use it; I had an extra oil filter, another wix xp. Unfortunately it had the same serial number and same problem. I emailed wix this morning notifying them of this issue. Hopefully I'll have something to share or an update this week. This is the first time I had an issue with an oil filter ever in my life. What a pain in the neck, just glad I noticed it before I go on vacation.

FYI- I did try and use the 2nd Wix xp oil filter despite the defect and it dident turn out well. Defect wasn't as bad as the first and I needed to get to the parts store for a oil filter. Either way it was a stupid idea trying to use an oil filter with a known defect. Even if it was only for a few miles.

I had the same issue with a k&n filter, haven't used one since, nor do I plan to.

I have a 16 hemi and have been using 5-20 pup with a synthetic filter. So far engine runs smooth and quite.

Mtgoat, there is a lot to be said for 3 to 4000 mile oci with conventional. I would use PYB for this as it has a good moly count.

I would go with Pennzoil High mileage conventional, has a good amount of moly also.

QSUD 5w30, Wix xp oil filter, filter mag magnet, 4800 miles. Ran this oil over double the miles over the last oil fill and wear numbers continue to drop. This oil report will be my last QSUD fill, it will be Amsoil from now on. Changed my oil filter selection to M1 from wix due to the defective oil filters I got from Wix. Iron is way down from the universal average, and copper is down with double the miles on the oil. I'm happy with this report.

Wix Xp, just switched to M1 due to the defective oil filter I got from Wix. Despite the defects the Wix Xp had good filtration characteristics. But I can't risk having an oil leak. We'll see how the M1 does on the next report.

Wander how much difference the filter mag makes on you're UOA. Would filter media catch that stuff anyway?

I believe 69 is running a mag. Waiting for him to do a cut open the filter review.
