My hood got lit up pretty good by hail and it will definitely need to be replaced... I thought I could use this as an opportunity to "upgrade" my hood to something a little bit more interesting.

How many of you have replaced the factory hood with a Sport hood from the dealer? How much did it cost? I saw a couple of posts that were $1000 when ordered from a dealer.

What about aftermarket hoods? Which ones have a decent fit? The ones I have seen all have functional scoops directed toward the intake (which makes me concerned about water but maybe I shouldn't worried?)

The aftermarket one I am leaning towards is this one: https://amerihood.com/dodge-ram-1500-2009-2018-type-clg-style-functional-ram-air-hood.html

TLDR; Is it worth it to spend extra on the OEM sport hood or are the aftermarkets high enough quality that they deserve consideration? Thanks!

It's not cheap upgrade. If I look up the stock hood for my '14 Express and the hood for a '14 Sport I get the following prices:

Flat - 68160234AD List: $667 / **MOP - $452

*Sport - 68160235AF List: $1520 / **MOP - $1028

* Mopar calls the sport hood a "Hood with Power Bulge"
** - www.moparonlineparts.com

I think you'd also need to buy a different liner and the plastic intake covers for the sport hood. If the repair is an insurance job you may be able to just pay the difference though.

Dang... That is pretty ridiculous price difference. Just supply and demand I suppose

I’m not sure if it’s the same for all brands but I did a fiberglass ram air hood for a different vehicle and no matter how I adjusted the fenders and hood there was no way I could get the hood and fenders to sit flush with each other.

I put an amerihood fiberglass hood on mine and love it
Body shop said very quality build and fitment was great
Was about $1000 total
Body work and install
The hood was $700 roughly
And I had it painted and installed with a cold air intake for $500

That looks badass !! Cheaper then a mopar sport hood, functional and looks better in my opinion.

I do remember though a member on here not that long ago posted a thread about this exact same hood. He had a red truck I believe. It seems that he lost his hood on the freeway and was asking about hood pins. So I guess there is always that to worry about

I have drove mine down the highway at 75-80 on couple hour trips and had no issues
since its new I do keep an eye on it for movement
So far it is very stable
Uses all the old hood hardware and feels solid opening and closing it

Although expensive, I think it's worth it if it were me. Totally changes the look and saves you a lot of money if you only have to pay the $600ish difference since a hood has to be purchased, painted, and installed anyway.
