activating DRLs in a USA built Ram

Has any one that had their DRL activated at the dealer had the ability to toggle off and on with the 8.4 interface like the OBD genie gives you .

I had my 2018 done at delivery. There is NO on screen option to toggle the DRL’s on/off. They only come in when you’re in gear, so if your idling in park you’ll be dark.

By going into the Settings on the 8.4 screen I now have the setting for enabling the on and off for the DRL's. I used the OBD Genie.

Looks like each of the OBD Genies are good for changing one setting - Does you know if the DLR one can be used again on another RAM?

Guess I will need to see if I can find a local dealer to enable DRLs. $199 is a bit much for me

Sure you can try your dealer give them a call, someone here said they called and obdgenie will be having 20% off for July 4th so that would be $160

Wish the OBD Genie worked on the 2018’s it would be worth the 199 to have the option to turn the DRL off and on with the 8.4 screen .

Long story short, my local dealer made me make 3 trips for what should have taken 1 trip (stereo warranty). So, when I went to drop of my truck today to finally be fixed, I asked "Hey since you're flashing my stereo anyway, can you activate my DRLs" - At first, they had no idea if it was possible. Then, they figured out is was possible and it was easy to do... and they'd "only" charge me $75 for a 1/2 hour labor. Really? I just spent 3 hours taking my vehicle back and forth and you can't help me out with a "1/2 hour labor"? Service sure isn't what it used to be.

Not weird at all. In order to program the BCM, commands must be sent across the CAN bus. Prior to 18, the diagnostic connector had direct access to the bus. To improve security, FCA implemented a new hardware gateway across all models for 18. It serves as a firewall between the diagnostic connector and the CAN bus and the radio and the CAN bus. Without knowing and implementing FCA’s unlocking method, the gateway is going to block traffic from any aftermarket device you plug in.

ZAutomotive has come up with a simple solution for the LX cars called the “Double Bypass” so you can use their products. It’s an auxiliary diagnostic connector that installs in the trunk and connects directly to the battery and the CAN.


Can you provide more info on how to connect “Double Bypass” to "an auxiliary diagnostic connector that installs in the trunk", - there is no trunk in a RAM. Where shroud I search for "STAR connector access box" in RAM, if it exists of cause.
