Just picked up a 2014 2500 whining noise already....

That's what I've been saying. I can guaranty no dealer is going to be able to tell anyone was inside the diff if you do have an axle shop fix their work. I had an entire service department staring at the front of my truck and not one person noticed the axle truss. Also, your warranty is worth what you can get a dealer to fix. If they can't or won't fix it, you essentially have no warranty.

Im paying to have mine done by an independent shop this fall or winter. I just honestly believe that the service department has few actual mechanics anymore. Everything is plug and play and update.

I’m assuming a transmission repair shop is what I’m looking for? I don’t see specific differential repair shops.

My preference would be a truck shop that has set up Ram trucks before but any shop that specializes in transmission and axle work should be able to do it if they have experience.

I did a quick search in your area and this came up:

https://www.broadwaytrans.com/differential-service-n-repair

http://www.greensburgmachine.com/contact.html

I have no idea who these guys are but that is the type of shop I would look at.

Of course I can’t get any response from my star case manager at this point to let them know that there is still an issue. I got an email from them and I replied to it but they haven’t contacted me. There is a phone number in the email they sent and it won’t let me talk to anyone until i answer a survey about vacations. I sent a message to Ramcares but haven’t heard back yet.

Geesh, Seriously what the hell man? Survey about Vacations? I Swear Ram probably loses more customers through poor service than actual issues or dislikes with the vehicles themselves. I have been looking at f-250's in my area. I dont necessarily think it's a way better truck than the Ram, BUT, I know first hand, that the Ford dealer I Bought my ecoboost f -150 from before the Ram was top notch in their service department, so I Know if I have an issue with the Ford It will get attention and quick. So in my area on a scale of 1-10, Ford Service = 8... Ram Service = 3. I had high hope from Ram for a short while there. I know other areas Ford service Sucks, and Ram shines. I think I made a mistake by not taking that "service" end of things into the equation when purchasing. But you often dont know it until you need it.
I'm not at that point yet because I like my truck (minus the whining rear end) , but im not too many issues away. And it really sucks to get rid of something you like because the service sucks.

My thoughts exactly...I was actually in the market for a Ford when I bought this truck. Actually got it from a Ford dealer LOL. I couldn't find what I wanted in my price range in a Ford so here I am.

You need a New Ram dealer. It’s not the make of vehicle as much as the dealership’s service dept and knowledge of the mechanics. Oopps I meant parts changers. Don’t bash Ram if it’s the dealer. That’s like blaming the gun manufacturers for someone’s faulty brain. Now makes no sense does it.

That was exactly my point.. In my area the RAM service is subpar, the Ford service above average. Yea, I mean we all know that every manufacturer has an issue or 12, thats not the point, the point is Who is going to fix it. I have had extremely good service from a Ford dealership and painfully subpar service from 2 Ram dealerships.I mean how far should I need to go to get good service, 1.5 hours, 2 hours?

Now where YOU are at, maybe Ford service sucks and Ram is wonderful and in that case the Ram would win out again.

To be Clear, I Like my truck and I'm not anxious to get rid of it. I'm not knocking the truck in the least, but the service experience .

I have yet to find a competent chrysler dealer. I've been to now 4 different dealers for my ram and 3 different dealers for my wife's jeep and I generally end up fixing the issues I went in for unless it's going to cost me a decent amount of money. It just isn't worth the frustration anymore. The dealer that finally fixed my rear axle whining noise had the truck for 3 weeks, they were complaining to me because it was costing them money for my rental and wanted me to return it when they hadn't even looked at the truck yet.

So this is my final update until I can get the truck to another dealer. Ram has told me that the noise is normal and they support the dealer in not doing more about it. I requested a document from Ram stating that noise like this is normal and I was told that it was not available. Here is the only message they were willing to release to me. I will be taking the truck to a more competent dealer. It's a shame, I wish I waited for the Ford that I wanted. Either way, I like my truck but the service is horrible. Hopefully I have better results elsewhere.

"John, This is ****** from Ram case management. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me about your concerns today, as discussed at this time with the information we have available to us it does not appear that this concern warrants the replacement of any additional components. As I mentioned, if you do choose to bring the vehicle to another authorized Chrysler dealership and they feel that further action is needed, please do reach out to us so that we may discuss further. However, unless additional information is provided that supports further action we will stand behind Keene Dodge's decision."

Wow! I've got a '97 Ram that I just love but it's got 268,000+ miles on it and it's time for a newer truck. I've been looking at some used 2015-2017 2500's and they are pretty darned expensive even with gas engines, I really want a Cummins though.
After reading all the headaches the OP has gone through I'm beginning to wonder if I really want a new Ram.
Is this an anomaly or is this pretty common?

Not real a common problem.
I gave $30K for my truck it’s a po’boys Power Wagon.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one. And if y’all want a super good deal no matter where you live I can help you get that deal. NO I’m not a salesman!! But I have a really good friend that is. And they ship nationwide too. Send me a pm if y’all interested

I just picked up a 2014 2500 ST a few weeks ago. Love the truck but it has a whine that sounds like the rear diff. I couldn't get up to highway speeds when I test drove it and I assumed a little more drivetrain noise was expected in a HD truck (this is my first one). The truck only has 24,000 miles and still is covered under the factory drivetrain warranty so it goes in to the dealer tomorrow. They went on a ride with me and confirmed that it shouldn't sound like it does. I thought I'd sign up and share how it goes. I see lots of post about noise but this one is 50-65mph and I'm between coasting and accelerating. Another point of interest, this truck has a factory 5th wheel package so I'm sure it was used to pull a trailer. Wish me luck.

Most of us whine when the first payment is due. ;)

Very common in my experience, had a huge blow up at the dodge dealership. They voided my warranty on parts they installed at the dealership, and they were factory Mopar parts from that dealership. No lie!!
That was the single deciding factor when I went truck shopping last year. It was between the Ram 6.4 and my beautiful GMC 2500 HD 4x4. The ram came out about $100 cheaper per month and 1 year less on the loan. But the memories of some **** bag ram tech laughing in my face in the service department was all I needed to sign on the dotted line with my GMC.
