I am getting ready to order a new 2500 with a 6.4 hemi. I am looking at the standard 3:73 rear end or maybe the 4:10.

Most of my towing will be fine with the 3:73 but for the future who knows.

How much of a difference is there in gas millage going to the 4:10/

Thanks

Get the 4:10. Especially if you might go up in tire size ever. Going from a 33 to a 34-35 will put you right back around the 3:73. Close enough with out getting technical anyways.

I don't think I've seen a comparison between the two gear sets as far as mileage is concerned.

The percentage difference between the two gear sets is 9% or so but that does not correlate to a 9% difference in fuel usage. Rather, the biggest impacts to mileage are headwinds, tire size changes, lifted vs. stock, speed, weight towed, throttle input force, etc...

Frankly, if you will be towing, the 4.10 gear set would be a better choice.

Are you thinking about towing mileage or empty mileage?

Go with 4.10s. At 75 MPH in 6th mine turns 2K RPM. Peak torque is 4K RPM, so you are not exactly surfing the torque curve even with 4.10s.

Go with 4.10s. If you are putting in the effort to order a truck, just get them.

Vern, I've gone from 3.55s to 4.10s. If I milk it, the truck does real good on gas. But going slow is boring.

I wouldn't trade my 4.10s for anything.

Driving a big Ram isn't a money saving endeavor to start with.

Had I ordered mine, I would have chosen 4.10's. However, buying off the lot, they were impossible to find down here.

I remember it being about 10-11 avg with the 4.10 that was in a PW I drove for a few days. My truck is getting 15-18 with 3.73 both trucks are anti slip 4x4
I don’t do much towing anymore.

I GMC 2500 came stock with 410 and I'm glad it did. It's a big 7k pound truck and needs all the gear. I wish the 456 was an option, I'd definitely go with the 456. I had 410 in my Ram also, liked it a lot but even in that truck I wanted 456. Gears are bang for the buck IMO.

I agree that if it’s being ordered go with the 410s but I can’t imagine it makes to big a difference so I wouldn’t pass up a deal over it...my 16 ccsb 4x4 3500 on 285/75r16 (35s)with 373s pulls 14000 lbs just fine throughout nh

If you don't get the 4.10 gears you will regret it later on down the road.

I have a really, really hard time believing that there is an 8 mpg difference between 3.73, and 4.10s.

Go with 4.10's for sure! 33" tires and a tranny with 2 overdrive gears why neuter the truck with 3.73's? I ordered my reg cab 2500 4x4 with 4.10's. I've gotten has high a 19 hwy 65-70mph, lots of hills, passing, etc. 11500 mile trip towing TT from AK to lower 48 and back I averaged 14.5. Speed will use more gas more that anything.
