    The other day I was using my 4x4 Dana 60 frt end. and in 4x4 when i would hit real rough dirt roads I could hear a loud, hard clunking,noise. when I take it out of 4x4 NO NOISE. This just started this trip. ANY IDEAS????? 99 Dodge 2500 4x4 4 dr. V-10 5 speed Dana 60 frt Dana 80 rear end. Thanks

    Fuel Capacity

    My guess is 26 gal. But posting this in the 2nd Gen section might get more input. My 99 QC short bed is a 35 gal.

    Same fate for the manual transmission?

    I have a 99 Dodge 2500 4x4 with a 5 speed manual. with 90,000 original miles I have had no issues with my manual. I believe the manuals use a special gear oil because of the sycro's are carbon fiber. I can shift mine without a clutch both up an down, smooth running tranny I think.

    I bought mine off Autotraders.com. It was a private party sale. Since I don't tow that much (use to tow 5000 mile/year. So I wanted GAS. I found the V-10 I really like it & it is cheap to maintain. I bought it in 2011 with 72K from original owner.

    You will need 8 lug wheels. For the work & money I would leave it the way it is.

    Oil leak, distributor or intake?

    To tighten the unit they make a sending unit socket. Without that i doubt you got it tight enough. I put a wrap of Teflon tape on the threads on mine. Tightening with the plastic might of damaged the unit.

    In California you have to buy a cat from Dodge. You can't but aftermarket. Are you in a county that you have to test every two years?

    Vibration Issue

    Mine is a 4x4, my friends trucks are 2wd. All of them seem to be the same vibration at the same speeds. I'm not going to dig into it. I either drive it under 68 or over 72 mph. At 90 mph is smooth as glass. Thanks for the inputs.

    What does the fluid look like? Have you changed the fluid & filter? Early Mopar Trannys are pretty bullet proof. If fluid & filter are good try adding some Lucas tranny additive.

    My 99 2500 QC 4x4 has a slight vibration at around 68-70 mph. It feels like a tire/wheel type vibration. Not there at 72 or 65 mph. My friend has four 2nd gen Dodges & all of his do it also.     Interesting to say the least. But you need to do something with the front bumper. All the holes from the plastic being removed looks tacky.

    I like & use NAPA brand oils. They are Valvoline oils. Use them for 25+years.

    Not necessarily. It is a chance but without popping the diff cover & looking its a guessing game as to what will be needed.

    I would drain the rear end fluid & refill with a good synthetic oil. Check owners manual or your parts house for recommended weight. Then add a bottle of posi-track additive. My 99 Dodge 2500 QC 4x4 owners manual calls for synthetic oil & the additive.

    Are you getting the vacuum switch at the transfer case all the way in? One thread will out will stop the switch from engaging.
