Springs, pushrods, and cam are in the truck

I agree with charonblk07, 6.1 tensioner is the way to go, it has 4 leaf springs instead of 2. The chain and gears are the same between the 6.1 and 5.7, the tensioner is the only difference.

    Error code P0441

Check the hoses going to the charcoal canister mounted at the frame under the truck. I got that code on my old Dakota 4.7 and the lines were dry rotted and cracked at the canister. New hoses fixed my problem.

    Front Diff Gasket?

Diff covers aren't paper thin, at least none of the ones I have dealt with are. I've never bent a diff cover by using a screw driver to get it loose. I guess you could gouge the mating surface by using a wedge, but I've never had that issue either. Maybe it's my gentle touch though.

    Front Diff Gasket?

Just use RTV. For diff covers, I have used the permatex high temp red, permatex gear oil RTV, and the Mopar stuff over the years and have never had an issue with any of them leaking. Just apply a bead of it, install the diff cover, finger tighten the bolts, allow it to cure for about an hour and...

    plug gap

Tricky part is finding a heat range conversion chart. Here you go: http://www.jegs.com/pdfs/111-ugroove.pdf Check page 3, those accell plugs are the same heat range as the stock champions that cam in your truck.

    plug gap

What is the plug part number on the box? You can look the heat range up online with the plug part number.

    plug gap

I'm going to agree with dodge dude and refeicul. It's never a good idea to run a plug with a hotter heat range than stock. No problems going one heat range colder but the only reason to do that though would be if you gained some serious power by doing some other mods. For example, general...

Can the stock heads be machined at all?

It will definitely be a kick in the pants difference. You should get a nice lope from it because of the LSA. Who is doing your tuning?

Can the stock heads be machined at all?

You are looking at 1700+ for heads from Stu. Stock heads should flow just fine for that cam, although ported heads will give you more performance. Even though the heads have low mileage, new valve seats, guides, retainers and such are cheap insurance. Folks have dropped a valve seat even in...

Can the stock heads be machined at all?

Before the Thitek heads came out, the only option for Hemi heads was having them reworked. Ported stock heads are still the most popular option because of cost vs thitek heads, even then, a set of reworked heads isn't cheap. Since you are pulling the heads, I would have new valve seats and...

Eco Diesel vs Pentastar 3.6 MPG Cost

It has more torque than the hemi, not by much but it is more. It may be slower than a pentastar...BUT, let's not forget how friendly a turbo diesel is to modding. Bolt on performance parts yield greater power and torque gains than in gas engines. And tuners, don't forget about those. When...

    Infamous Plenum Gasket

Might as well throw a new water pump on there. I wasn't thinking when I did my plenum repair. I'm looking at doing the timing chain and water pump in the next few weeks.

    spark plug boot question

Yeah, I had that issue the first time I did a plug change in my 5.7 as well. They were difficult.

    spark plug boot question

Yes, just a little bit on the inside of the boots. Treat them like a spark plug wire boot.

Time to change the plenum gasket

The intake manifold bolts can be a pain in the ass. Spray them down with some PB blaster. Even though they are only torqued to a few ft lbs, I had one snap on me with very little effort applied loosening it. It didn't feel seized, I just encountered a little resistance and snap-ola. It was not a...

    I swore I wouldn't do it...

I appreciate the insight. I may save a few more dollars and go with a different set then.

    Running lean in bank 1

The gauge cluster and headlights would dim if the rpms drop too low because the alternator wouldn't be putting out enough juice. Sounds like your battery may be on it's way out. I had a somewhat similar issue in my Charger where the battery went bad. It would power accessories and headlights...

All I wanted was a stroker

Glad to hear it wasn't anything major. Any plans for a dyno test? I'm interested to see what kind of power it is making.

    Running lean in bank 1

If you are getting the too lean on bank 1 code, you may have a leak somewhere in the system before the 02 sensors. Where I would start is by checking for exhaust leaks at the header to head and header to y pipe or whatever your setup is, check if there are leaks at the front o2 sensor locations...

    Pcv valve/ oil catch can

Tons of folks running a catch can here. The PCV is is toward the rear of the intake manifold on the passenger side and the hose runs from there to the front of the manifold. Do a search for catch can install and you will find pics. Edit: Here is a pic of the catch can setup in my 2006 Charger...

    contemplating buying a 1996 3500 cummins dually

Even if it doesn't have the dowel pin fix, that job isn't one that breaks the bank. With only 116k miles on it, that Cummins is hardly broken in yet. A big plus to the older Cummins is they get great fuel mileage for a truck. My father gets up to 21mpg towing a 27' fifth wheel in his 1997 2500...

    Non LSD to LSD?

If you are having new gears installed, go with an LSD unit. There are several options as stated above. Since the diff will be apart anyway, there shouldn't be any added labor costs associated with it, just the cost of the LSD unit. I recently rebuilt my stock trac-loc with new clutches when I...
