That's interesting. I knew there would be some difference, but hadn't realized the tow cap was so much lower with the 3:21 rear end.
I was able to find a chart confirming 8,040lbs for the 2019.
Makes me even happier to have the 3:92s with an extra couple thousand pounds of wiggle room.
No problem whatsoever. Your truck will pull that pretty easily.
Just remember, proper weight distribution is your friend. It makes all the difference in the world on the road.
One tip if you plan to fill the water tank on your trailer, is to plan a spot closer to your destination to fill up...
Similar situation for me.
Had a 2002 Dakota with the 360c.i. (5.9L) and absolutely loved it.
The thing was bullet proof right up to the day I traded it in.
It's one of the biggest reasons I bought a Ram.
This is a familiar story.
If you're not happy, and you have the means, trade it in for something you love.
Life's too short.
Often see posts from prospective buyers about whether or not to get the Hemi, and my answer is always the same.
If your single biggest driver is mpg, by all means get...
It's also worth pointing out that the OEM diff gaskets are about 70 bucks apiece, and the Mopar fluid is about 40 bucks a liter (x2) if I remember right.
If I'm not mistaken, there's also an additional additive that they put in on some models of truck.
They also do a flush, which I don't really...
Maintenance schedule recommends 96,000 kms (60,000 miles) if towing regularly. I've never found a suggested mileage outside of that.
Since I do tow a fair bit in the summer I had mine done at 100,000 kms (62,000 miles) at the suggestion of the dealer.
It may have been a bit sooner than needed...
Probably an expensive lesson. Lol
And some inexperience on the driver's part.
Either let off the pedal when he shouldn't have and stalled it, or tried to plow through too fast and sucked a bunch of water in.
Hopefully an oil and diff fluid change will do the trick, and there's no permanent...
I didn't have time to read through the entire thread, so forgive me if you've already gotten this figured out.
Depending on how much money you're looking to spend, I would recommend slightly newer if you're shying away from 2011/2012's.
You'll get into more desirable options with the newer...
Just an observation, but it seems to me from your posts that you're more of a Hemi guy.
These trucks are so damn expensive, why would you buy one that doesn't put a smile on your face every time you get in it?
Yeah I get that fuel is expensive. But if that was the only consideration you'd be...
I think you took my comment too literally.
It's not a required maintenance item per se, but something that - in the case of the minivan - would have prevented the fire from occurring.
I was not suggesting you didn't maintain your vehicle properly. Only drawing a parallel to a recent experience...
We did a case study on this exact scenario when I took a course on root cause analysis a couple years ago.
It happened on a minivan, and basically was deemed to be the result of poor maintenance (not cleaning leaves out of the cowling).
Ever since, I make a point of opening my hood and cleaning...
I looked at upgrading to a 2018 earlier this year when they had all the discounts available.
Word around was that the 2018's were having more issues than previous years for some reason. So I decided to wait a couple more years.
I'm guessing it has to do with them shifting focus to the new 2019...
But it's not about trailer sway. If the tail is constantly wagging the dog so to speak, you have more of an issue with weight distribution and trailer leveling than you do with the size of your tow vehicle. A larger, heavier vehicle will just be able to handle that sway a little better.
The...
If it's anything like the new ones, your trailer is about 8000lbs dry weight.
Loaded with all your gear and full tanks, it's not hard to add 1500lbs or even 2000lbs.
The eco diesel with the 3:55's is only rated for 8240lbs maximum trailer weight. Even with the 3:92's it's only just above...
Sounds like we have very similar setups. Mine is around 4800lbs dry, and it's amazing how easy it is to put 2000lbs of gear in there.
Almost can't believe it, but I'm up at 7000lbs on average.
Have a safe trip!
And for what it's worth I would personally take the slightly longer route through...
Is this a one time deal or a daily event, or something in between? That could completely change my opinion below.
My general philosophy has always been to not exceed 80% of rated capacity. Even then I would always aim to stay well below 10k with a half ton. Personal comfort zone.
You don't...
Just checking... Is that a 4800lb trailer (meaning dry weight)? Or have you weighed your trailer full, and that's your total trailer weight with all your gear and full tanks?
Either way, the 3:21's should be fine. The only time you'll really notice a difference is if you're taking a lot of...
Because I bought a travel trailer that (while technically within specs) was just too much for my Dakota to pull in the mountains.
When the rear end started to go, it was time to upgrade to a new Ram.
Loved my Dakota in every way. It was a blast to drive thanks to the 5.9L, but realistically it...
As others have said, it really comes down to what is right for you.
I will only say this... I've never heard anyone with a Hemi say they wish they'd gotten the V6.
In the same way, I've never heard anyone with the 3.92 gears say they wish they had 3.21's.
The opposite scenario has played out...
I have a 2014 CC 1500 5.7L 4x4 with the 8spd tranny and 3.92 gears, and I also tow a 7000lb TT.
Even towing in the Rockies I only slow down to any great extent on the steepest hills. Typically it takes little effort to stay above 90km/h (55mph) on most terrain.
Though if memory serves, at...
We used to have all GM trucks as well, but as of 2018 they've started replacing our fleet with Ram trucks. Both 1500's and 2500's.
Added bonus, is that our corporate discount has now moved over to FCA! :waytogo:
Looking for some suggestions on suspension upgrades.
I'm looking at upgrading to a 2018 and I have my eye on a Sport model night edition. Only problem is the Sport trim doesn't have heavy duty suspension like my Outdoorsman does (or skid plates).
So I either have to go with a lower trim which...
