1500 vs 2500 for towing travel trailer (downhill)

I went through a similar situation as the OP in 2014. Started with a 2014 1500 5.7 hemi for a little 19 ft TT and a 8000-9000lb of utility trailer. within a year after trying to 'upgrade' the 1500 to work better at towing, I went to a 2500 6.4. got tired of white knuckling it (mostly with...

    Routine radiator replacement?

Thanks everyone for all the info and input. I ended up replacing the entire cooling system right down to the reservoir cap, to include the radiator (Denso not mopar). Soaked my EGR cooler in Purple power over night. Inside of that thing went from black and sooty to pretty much new looking...

    Routine radiator replacement?

I was at a Ram parts counter. I've never replaced a radiator as prevenative but all of my experience has been on less newer trucks, that's why I was asking. swapping the radiator would literally take minutes on my 2500 so I was temped. But knowing how easy it is to take the fan / shroud/...

    Routine radiator replacement?

that does make more sense but, no. the guy was referring specifically to the radiator. Maybe he was just F-ing with me. although, at $300 for OEM mopar radiator, it was tempting.

    Routine radiator replacement?

So I'm currently in the middle of my 10 year (almost) and 100k mile tune up. New plugs, new belt and pullies, new water pump, thermostat, hoses. Crazy you have to take the intake manifold off for this which mandates replacing the EGR return cooling hose. also doing the inlet as well (might as...

    BODY SWAP DIFFICULTY

the rear bed wheel arch rot could be a bear to fix. tedious but not terrible if you have a welder and access to rear sheet metal. the body panel and inner wheel well are welded together to form the wheel arch. over years, it collects salt, dirt, water then rots out. It will need new sheet...

How much sound deadening mat needed?

I did sound proofing on my 73 regular cab. which is the same basic structure as yours. I did not do the roof since I don't have a headliner just bare metal. I did the entire floor and firewall. I added batting before putting in carpet for extra measure. As well, since I deleted my HVAC, I...

What Did You Do To Your RAM Today?

don't envy you. HVAC is a real PITA in these trucks. finding parts is the hardest. I was going to be lazy and go non-factory Vintage air, yes, just throwing money at the problem

    sloppy steering on 89 W-150

look into mopar part numbers : 2265656 and 2925491. that was the column bearing and isolator part number for my 78 d100 column. it also is supposed to work on 84-90 model years.

    6.4 Hemi - 8 Year Report

I'm at 7 years with no trans problems. would agree, its been a pretty good truck. For a while, I really wanted to trade in for an 8 speed. then I just stopped reading about the 8 speed and my annoying 6 speed was livable again. Will keep the truck a bit longer. especially with the prices...

    93 w150 bed mount

I don't think there are any bushing for the bed. I used 3/8 grade 8 bolts to mount my bed. it was direct metal/metal contact.

What size engine do I have?

if its gas, it'll be a 318 or 360. no 340s were put in the trucks that I know of. Casting numbers will be on the driver side of the block. Visually 318 and 360 are nearly identical. best bet as stated, get under the truck and take a look

    Fuel Tank Straps

if you get 'creative' you can use the other year straps for your truck as long as they are from 72-93. for the most part, the mounting points for the straps haven't changed. you might have to cut or drill some holes to make it work. I had to add a piece of metal strapping from home depot to...

Changing fuel tank to rear of truck

that's a very specific project. if you google search tank relocation, its been done. but if brining the filler neck out behind the license plate, I think you'd be the first. that basically sounds like alot of custom fab. once you get the mock up of the tank and filler done, your best bet is...

Still waiting on Body Shop to get to my truck

if there's no objection to not keeping things as original as possible, could you just look for a replacement cab instead of just the roof skin? might be easier to find.

Any idea on what to do next?

throw a bit more money at it and you could go to a 2 bbl TBI injector Fitech or Holley Sn!per. throwing even more at it, a ready to run distributor would allow you delete all of your oem ignition bits, as long as you don't have smog inspection laws.

    lost VIN tag

I've been restoring old cars for many years. I had this truck down to its last individual parts, frame off, etc. So, I looked in all the usual places as I usually do just out of habit while restoring. there was nothing. I mean I was shocked how little identification there was on these...

    lost VIN tag

so it turns out the only place that these old trucks have a VIN tag is on the driver side door. I've had my truck down to the frame and didn't notice a VIN stamped on the frame, firewall, etc. so cutting to the problem, when restoring my truck, I replaced the rusted driver side door on the...

    Chrysler 300s, thought?

rear end ratios aren't even an option on the Chrysler web site. unlike different trim levels on the charger that gets you the 3.09, the 300 doesn't have that. Not overly concerned. I know I'll be taking a performance hit going from a Mustang GT to a 300, but should be fast enough for me. btw...

    Chrysler 300s, thought?

thanks for the input all. yeah, I've had my eye on the 300 for a bit and was holding my breath, just hoping they'd offer the 6.4 as a special "final run" model but I don't see that happening. 5 are in transit so as soon as the 300S v8 models arrive here, I guess I'll go looking. just...
