3.55 Rear End Finally Giving Way?

My 2013 had the same issue, turned out to be the Pinion Bearing.

Here is the UOA of my transfer case running Amsoil 75w90 GL-5, according to Blackstone it looks good. One thing to consider is Blackstone doesn't test for Brass; Brass is an Alloy (Man Made Metal) comprised of Copper and Zinc. Zinc being a EP additive added to engine oils it would be hard to...

PUP 5W30- Not So Good, Not So Bad...

I experienced the same thing with my 2013 Ram switching from 5w20 to 5w30, it felt like it took a littler Pep out of it; so you will feel that especially if your performance driven. I was racing at the time so I was always trying to squeez every last horse out of it, so I switched back to the...

Check this out! This guy over on the 4R forum pulled a loaded trailer from GA to AZ and back with his 4runner, locked in s4 (towing gear) with steady RPM's around 3000 the 40w held up and produced a fantastic report.

I know this has been Years in the making LOL; looking forward to my first run of Redline. This being a Ram forum I know most don't know that the 4Runner has one of the noisiest engines on the market, usually a bump in viscosity will help but still a noisy 4.0. My 4R just rolled over 60k last...

I think Toyota is a good company and have built a good rep in the US, but on this TC fluid issue I think they can do better. No GL-? recommendation in the owners manual; would be nice if they added GL-4 to make it clear to their consumers. Interestingly there's a guy on YouTube called the Care...

Defiantly Brass/Copper synchronizers in the transfer case; video is of a 2017 Tacoma TC but they share the same TC with the 4runner. Halfway through the video you'll see the synchronizers. I'm defiantly draining out the GL-5 75w90 that I got in it right now; according to the Redline website it's...

Defiantly no brass or copper in the gears, manual calls for GL-5 for both front and rear diffs but no GL rating on the Transfer case fluid.

I was thinking the same thing, GL-4 is hard to find locally it's mainly a special order product. My 4Runner is an automatic, transfer case is manual engagement. One big down side to the Toyota Transfer Case LF fluid is that it's $85 per liter.

OK guys, I have something interesting I'd like to discus! This is in reference to the Transfer Case fluid in the Toyota 4runner, there is a lot of discussion on the Toyota recommended fluid that is a 75w. Some say it is a GL-4 and some say it is a GL-5; most of us are running a 75w90 GL-5. Dave...

The blood type diet is legit and works very well; if you add intermediate fasting with the blood type diet the results are amazing. I combined the two and lost 50lbs over a one year period, had to cut my sugar consumption by about 90% too. I was at 245lbs, had inflammation in my joints, lower...

Definitely on the light side for a 30 weight oil, what’s interesting is the 5th Gen 4Runner comes with an engine oil/transmission fluid oil cooler stock from the factory. I’m the summer my engine oil temperatures are between 160-180 degrees Fahrenheit and winter between 140-155 degrees...

Does it seal good at the top and bottom of the housing/canister? I’ve been wanting a good synthetic oil filter but I don’t like how they mate up with the housing/canister. I haven’t look at farm yet, but definitely will next time I’m at Walmart.

This 4Runner used a cartridge oil filter, not a spin on filter. It’s just the $5 Toyota oil filter from the stealership. Ironically all the aftermarket oil filters are sub-par.

Here are some popular 0W20’s and 0W30’s for comparison. I really don’t like comparing two different oil weights but it’s illustrative. That Toyota 0W20 is the King of flow, with 700+ moly it’s at a minimum, interesting.

Here is an example, the 100/40 cSt is set by the oil manufacturers, so those numbers don’t change. But the operating temperature that I circulated is whatever you want it to be. 10,20,30 degrees all the way up to whatever you want to see. You just have to calculate the Celsius to Fahrenheit and...

This is what I call separating the men from the boys; here it is down to -20F. First oil to stand out is Redline 0W40 out flowing all the 30's and the 5W20. I think this is because the 0W40 has a Viscosity Index of 190, but I cant be sure. Seems unlikely but i triple checked it and included the...

Yes I do it myself, it’s not hard but more time consuming. I have to calculate every temperature change for every oil and then convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit. It really is a pain but I’ll work on getting that -20 chart for our northern brothers.
