    4 Ecodiesels 3 Cummins 1 Ram family

Hey turkeybird, Its my backup and doing daily for my daughter with 914,000. The 4th gens blocked the radiator with the intercooler so heat from towing TTs commercially claimed two engines after only 800k. We will see if the 2nd & final replacement gets her over the million mile mark.

    Towing Mileage Comparison / Questions

I don't know about the 5th gen but in the 4th gen the ED weighed 90 pounds more than the Hemi and came with 50 pounds more GVWR.

    Towing Mileage Comparison / Questions

Fuel economy towing is going to be huge win in Diesel over gas as there is more pulling power in the same gallon of fuel. A 25" TT setup well is great with 1500. 32'+ definitely benefits if not requires use of a HD. When it comes to safety & stability we should talk about axle weight...

Towing Heavy with a 1500 ... Who does it?

2 1/2 half years ago pretty sure OP has already done whatever he did. 9k while do-able with the right setup for a 4th gen really is far better suited to a 2500. 8k is more of a practical limit for the 4th gen 1500 after being properly setup with WDH & airbags. Two short flatland tows if truck...

Oddball question: Does a WDH count towards a truck's tongue weight?

For slow rough terrain I wouldn't either. Or for a 5,000 lb trailer with low aerodynamic drag I still wouldn't bother. But for an 8k long box travel trailer on a 1,000 mile tow behind a half ton truck.. absolutely. All 5 half ton Mfgrs recommend a WDH for anything over 5,000. But most...

Towing Heavy with a 1500 ... Who does it?

Chris with my ED that would be 14 mpg at 65 mph. And if the in coil bags go bad try the Timbergrove axle to frame bags. Worth the extra money. Alan fear won't overcome you to play it way conservative if you invest in a WDH and a few bucks and an hour at a CAT scale to A. Have the safest most...

Oddball question: Does a WDH count towards a truck's tongue weight?

Does a WDH count towards a trucks's tongue weight? Some. But its not the fixed weight of the WDH. When using a WDH tongue weight is no longer static but rather dynamic. IE some of the tongue weight as seen on rear axle is transferred to the front truck axle and usually a lesser amount of it...

    Turbocharger ecodiesel

This has been discussed over at ram1500diesel forum at length. Here was my intake after 423,000 miles. I ran an older GDE tune that had the soot recirculator turned off. If only the EPA could be held responsible for their requirement / the intake fires. The tune also turned off pre and post...

How many miles have you driven your eco diesel?

The 2020+ Ecodiesels have a completely redesigned engine with 80% new parts. It would be good to somehow have two sections one for the 14 to 19s one for the 2020+ Lots of the 14-19s die early from crank/bearings failures. Some rumors a low rpm harmonics crank squirm. Some blame people...

    Big Engine (5.7, 5.9, 6.4, 6.7, 8.0, etc) vs Small Engine (3.0, 3.6)... Towing?

OP sounds like a troll to me. Half sense & unrelated odd stuff. Doubt he ever produces a pic of that turbo 3.6. Makes you wonder about the rest of his odd statements. Wonder if he drives a ford car or Honda civic and thinks he is hilarious. Both 2003 & ramf posts were on point. I like to use...

    20-21 Eco Diesel Reliability?

My son has 15k miles on his 2022 zero issues. 2k miles since the GDE engine & transmission tunes. Stronger and a mileage bump after upgrading the tune.

    RV Towing Newbie

Good thread mostly really good info and advice. You can tell most people who have replied have spent time towing TTs and camping. To OPs questions Crash answered it well there is sufficient safety margin built in per Society of Automotive engineers requirements. The only reason for more margin...

New 3.0L Hurricane in line 6 from youtube perspective.

"so it will be interesting to see how much loading it takes to lose the fuel economy advantage." Not much when you are towing a trailer. But if you do lots of towing they have the Ecodiesel for that.

Sorry fellas I've been offline for a couple weeks. Yes as Crash said it was a Green Diesel Engineering government compliant tune.

    32.5 MPG

Son has a 2022 Ecodiesel with 3.21s. After his 10K oil change and talking to the service manager he decided to upgrade to an aftermarket tune. 13k miles on the truck now coming back from the tune installation Detroit MI to Dayton OH we got 32.5 mpg. This was running 75 mph with a little bit of...

What equipment makes towing/ camping easier?

Modern WDH Weight Distribution Hitch with built in sway control. All 5 1/2 ton Mfgrs recommend when you have a trailer over 5,000 pounds. Think travel trailer. Proper weight distribution of your steer drive & trailer axle weights is hands down the most important thing for the stability &...

Andersen no sway weight distribution hitch

Not positive I follow you. The trailer should be level not nose up or nose down. The truck should also be level or with a slight rake. This is generally & ball park. Ultimately it's about weight distribution; steer axle weight, drive axle weight, tongue weight percentage, & trailer axle weight...

Andersen no sway weight distribution hitch

Bird I be well. Hope you are also and thanks for asking. Unfortunately the ED cracked a head at 423,000 miles. Business associate James faired a little better his ED had a fuel pump implode and fill a cylinder with shrapnel at 452,000. Perhaps this one makes 500,000 miles. I dig your Ronald...

Andersen no sway weight distribution hitch

All 5 half ton Mfgrs recommend a WDH for trailers over 5,000 pounds. High wind drag trailers such as travel trailers especially benefit from not only the weight distribution but the built in sway control such as the Andersen has. Sounds like the guy at the local trailer shop knew how to set it...

2021 Ram Rebel Eco Diesel - Engine Failure

It would be spot on if OP were talking about a 14-19 but since he is not.. Are you the guy that hooked a tow strap to an ED and got his 6.4 drug down the street?

2021 Ram Rebel Eco Diesel - Engine Failure

"And all for reduction of just a single exhaust pollutant: oxides of nitrogen. The holy grail was to reduce peak combustion temperature to limit production of NOx, which also happens to reduce peak cylinder pressure (torque) and fuel efficiency. In other words, reducing NOx in a diesel engine...

2021 Ram Rebel Eco Diesel - Engine Failure

The title is misleading. A breakdown is not an engine failure. My son just got his 2022 only 2,500 miles no issues so far and fantastic mileage. After the EPA forced the AEM detune (2014,15,16 then factory detuned for 2017,18, 19) they suck compared to the original tunes. Emissions problems...

Want to get another ram. V6 or Eco Diesel?

For the OP & fuel economy I would say if you are not using it to tow that I would lean toward the Pentastar over the gen 4 truck diesel. The gen 5 truck diesel has a pretty good track record so far. My son has a gen 5 ED no issues so far and gets 31-33 on the highway with 3.21s. Floyd 442k is...
