After 43 years on this Earth and giving family members a load of shit over the years for doing it, it finally happened to me. I feel like a complete idiot. I was backing up next to a curb and not paying enough attention to the front of the truck and this happened. I'm pissed at myself and I...
I was going to order a notch and bridge kit for the truck tomorrow, but I've decided to forego the kit, order one piece notches and build the bridge myself so that I can have the say on where and how things look and fit instead of being stuck with the kit.
Yep. Look for a local place that sells replacement body parts to the auto body shops. Here, it's Jerry's Bumper Sales. They had my bumper in stock. I went with a CAPA certified bumper which are normally better quality and it was still like $130.
Bagging the truck completely would actually be cheaper than the route I'm going and to be honest, I've thought long and hard about it.
The only thing that stopped me is the possibility of a failure while towing a trailer long distances.
It's nice to have the bags to protect the fuel tank for normal driving. I've probably got 2.5" of clearance right now with no air in the bags. Putting just a little in them gives me enough room to drive without worrying about it, but then I can dump the air when I want to show off. With it...
I see one immediate problem that could be fixed in 10 minutes. They have the front of the bumper shoved too far up in the front. There should be some space under the grill and headlights. Up too high in the front will cause alignment problems on the sides. I figured that out the hard way...
The black steel bumpers are too cheap to worry about all the labor involved in stripping chrome.
The other benefit to the steel bumper is being able to weld the holes shut if you're not required to have a front license plate.
Safelite is pretty much the only game in town around here. They've replaced 2 windshield and filled a bunch of chips for me over the years and I've never had an issue with them. It's also very convenient that they come to my work and do the work in the parking lot.
Sport bumper covers for the 02-05 are absolutely ridiculous compared to buying an 06+ one. I agree with you though, if you've already got the supports and brackets, it makes sense to spend the extra money.
We haven't done the timing belt yet. It was replaced at 120,000 miles so I pulled the cover and everything looks good for now. We will do it before he gets it tuned though, we are trying to get all the Audiisms out of it right now.
When we do the timing belt, it's going to get a new water...
Yeah, I used the Audizine article the best I could for the motor mounts. I say the best I could because the Photobucket debacle removed the pictures from most of them.
The rear diff mount was not a hard job at all, but all the tutorials and the instructions tried to make it much more...
I didn't paint over the chrome and I suggest against anyone doing it, especially when a primered steel bumper is super cheap to buy, a lot easier to prep and will hold the paint a lot longer.
