I went from a 2500 gas, to a 3500 dually Cummins. The gas does ride better, but only marginally. The biggest factor is wheel size. Worst riding HD I owned was my 2016 Laramie Cummins, those 20" wheels were awful.
That HO will pull like a mule!! Yes, a dually would be preferable for stability with anything north of 13,000 pounds, but you already have the truck. So just match whatever camper you choose to the truck.
My 6.7 gets 3 to 4 mpg better towing than my 6.4 did. Don't know what my unloaded hwy economy is yet, as every trip I've taken has been hauling the camper. My 6.4 once got 16 mpg highway.
As a full timer, Cummins. My 6.4 was a great truck, but the Cummins is better at towing. My tow capacity is north of 20,000 pounds, and my payload is 5800 pounds, such a great tow rig
