What can ya tell me about the 318

Dave Im not doubting you know what youre doing, dont take it that way. I was just throwing my opinion out there, sorry if it seemed that way. Smoked- Ive just seen too many backyard parts changers do the block lift, and watched them get into some serious hurt because of them.

What can ya tell me about the 318

oh and dave, check your rear drive line angle. Im pretty sure it needs adjusting, not good to have the rear diff pointed up directly at the transfer case, causes oiling issues due to the fact you cant get a complete oil fill on the rear end, and it doesnt sling it correctly into the bearings and...

What can ya tell me about the 318

Junk those stupid block lifts he has on it, god I hate people who put lift blocks under the leafs.... Winds up causing all sorts of pain on the trail when youre in the rocks and you start snapping leafs, and u-bolts..... they make professional lift kits for a reason, spend the extra money people...

    5.2V5.9 or 318 vs 360

Everything Okie said is right on the money. The 318 can be made into one hell of an effiencient pulling machine, with the right work. Gears are a must, as it runs almost like the inline sixes, and falls flat on its face at high RPM stock (if you are wondering what Im talking about, take a ride...

Idiot co-worker female broke my passenger seat!

I just tore the plastic trim piece off of it, seem like the adjustment cable now had an extra inch of slack to it. Almost like the catch is open, but not retracting.

Idiot co-worker female broke my passenger seat!

Ok, so this morning, one of my co-workers rode with me to grab a bite to eat, goes to adjust the seat and bam, the handle now pivots freely. Looks like the cable somehow disconnected or something. Anybody ever repair the tilt mechanism on a dodge seat? Stupid F-ing coworkers:flipthebird:

What can ya tell me about the 318

Yeah dave, its a win/win. With your knowledge of mechanics and ability to source parts, this trucks minor mechanical problems with ease. Standard rules of all off road ready vehicles apply, perform the regular maintanance on time, and if it breaks, UPGRADE!

What can ya tell me about the 318

Ive heard the same around the shop, but I never saw the paperwork to back it up. I know some mechs back in FL that made some seriously high HP/TQ out of the 318's with some basic mods (cam, heads etc) If I had a 1/2 ton, Id rather have the 318 than the 360

What can ya tell me about the 318

The autolites and NGK's are both good copper core, which is along the lines of what I meant, TXBASS thanks for clarifying that fact for me.

What can ya tell me about the 318

Dave, The 318 is a great motor. The only issue they had was sludge build up in the oil passages if you didnt stay on top of oil changes. They can be built to actually push more power than a 360, and they rev a heck of a lot faster than the 360. We did a head swap with a set of 360 R/T heads...

    Ram 2500 - Hard Shifting

shift solenoid is a good possibility. If it was a 12v or a 24v second gen I would say it "could" be the TPS. So you have three things to look at- Trans filter, Valve body (right above the trans filter looking from underneath, the filter actually connects into it) or the shift solenoid. Im not...

    Ram 2500 - Hard Shifting

not the fuel filter, the tranny filter, which is inside the transmission pan. Sorry for the confusion. Oh, and the fuel filter should be changed on a regular basis (I change mine every other oil change for good measure, and also because the fuel I buy around town is usually crappy)

    Ram 2500 - Hard Shifting

change your filter. sounds like a possible clog. Or a valve body issue

    a weird noise

Does it sound like the engine, or do you feel it in the tranny? I had a similar issue with my old jeep, the counter shaft C-clip for fifth gear was buggered up. If its a NV 3500 tranny, most likely its the same issue. Rebuild time. Luckily the 3500's are a dime a dozen, and easily rebuildable...

    2500 CTD front wheel bearings

Ok gents, I have a quick question. For the story, heres the background on the truck 98 Ram 2500 12v CTD, Auto, 2WD Ok heres my question. Are the bearings on the front wheels seperate bearings, or are they unified hub bearings like the 1500's? I need to pull the front end apart to replace the...

    Ball joints...

heck youve got it that far, put the bolts in from the outside, then slide hammer the piss out of it. With the bearing in place, you cant get a slide hammer to the race assembly, but now you can!!! The det-cord/C4 trick is still an option though if all else fails!

    Ball joints...

oh and smokedram- no plasticrap here either! Just linex in the bed lol

    Ball joints...

1/2 pound of C-4 and a spool of det-cord, works every time. Honestly, the only way Ive found is the sacrificial bolt and the BFH method. Air chisel might work, but the BFH really makes you feel better afterwards (Works on jeeps too lol!) Loosen all three bolts about six turns, put a...
