Update on the daily driven W250

So it’s been a few years since I’ve posted on here, with issues pertaining to the throttle body injection and such. After 4 years, I have managed to fix it (timing was off by 12 degrees) and she’s been a great daily for the past 23k miles. To those who don’t know (probably many), I have a 1989...

    Dying transmission?

So my truck has been doing alright until last week, when the transmission starting acting up. Usually, the transmission would shift 1-2 between 20-25 mph and 2-3 between 35-45 mph, all depending on throttle input. But now, she shifts 1-2-3 all under 20 mph. I've looked around on other forums and...

    Engine still "pops"

It's been a while since I've been on here so I'll see if I can get some help. I leave for Carlisle next week and I'm not too too concerned about the truck making the 160 mile trip but one thing that has been bothering me is the truck still "pops". What I mean is it seems to be a little boggy and...

    Throttle Body Isolator Gasket

Work progresses on the truck. Dad and I took off the throttle body, as one of the injectors were leaking. We also had bought a rebuild kit and decided to replace all the gaskets. The kit comes with 3 gaskets, and we've discovered where 2 go, but are unsure of the third one. The picture included...

    3rd brake light for 1989 W250

So last week as I heading home, I was pulled over by a Maryland State Trooper. His reasoning was I had a brake light out. He gave me a warning and sent me on my way. Now here's the kicker: I get home and have dad check the taillights. Both of them work and everything. What we can only deduce is...

    Code 34

That's actually the one part I know we replaced last year. That went bad and caused not only gas to get in the oil but also caused it to run on 5 cylinders.

    Code 34

We think it may be a split rubber hose or something near the tank, as when we shut off the truck we hear gas draining back into the tank

    Code 34

I usually turn the key to run, hear the pump run and then start it. But it usually happens after I take it out for a drive (into town), go into a store or fast food place, then come out.

    Code 34

Within the past few weeks, the truck has been having problems with starting, mainly if the engine is still warm. Sometimes it will catch but idle down so low it almost stalls or it takes at least 3 full cycles to start. I just pulled the codes off the computer (counted the flashes on the Check...

    360 TBI Valve Covers

So the truck is finally daily driver worthy. It stops and goes perfectly (minus a small hiccup in starting). Now I want to replace the old valve covers since they are leaking and rusty and not that good looking. I was considering a set of Mopar Performance valve covers, but the old ones have a...

Anybody else seen this paint scheme before?

My 1989 has a similar one. Just around the body lines though

    K20 to W250 bumper

It's been a few weeks since I've posted, but the truck is close to completion. Earlier today I came across an offer on an older Warn or Ramsey winch bumper that a guy on the West Coast was getting rid off. However, two problems have come up. 1) He's on the west coast and I'm in Maryland. And...

    Exhaust help

That's how it exits right now, but with the big Walker muffler.

    Exhaust help

All the emissions and stuff is in place. I just want the truck to sound a little meaner (you know how teenagers are). Eventually the motor will be pulled and worked on properly. The old cat right now is being held up with wire and hopes and dreams. The muffler is alright, but the 360 is a bit...

    Exhaust help

So now that the bed is off and we have access to the rear unrestricted, I want to replace the Walker muffler I have on the truck. We have a replacement catalytic converter (must past the tail pipe test in my county) that will be put on. We haven't done anything up front (hole in manifold equals...

    New member

I already have a thread going, but I should introduce myself first. My name is Walter Joy. I'm just a 17 year old kid who's grown up in a family of car people (Chevrolets). Mopars haven't been as big in my family but a few have been in it. My uncle has an 84 D100 with a slant six and 3 speed...

    Gear Ratio mismatched

The reason it has so few miles is it is barely driven. My grandfather bought it and drove it for a while, but it was too big for him. It occasionally went out into town to pick me up from preschool and to go to the dump (this was 12-13 years ago) but we took it off the road and drove it around...

    Gear Ratio mismatched

Nope. This is a true 44,000 mile truck. Been in my family since 1992. When we were trying to diagnose why only 5 of 8 cylinders were firing earlier this year and the rough idle, we replaced the original distributor cap and spark plug wires. (Rough idle was due to Fuel Pressure Regulator going...

    Gear Ratio mismatched

Next time around. Right now I just want to get the truck on the road again after 10 years of it being idle (to put it in perspective, 3 or 4 years ago we took it on the road and the odometer rolled to 44,000 miles. Today it sits at 44,035 miles.)

    Gear Ratio mismatched

Thanks. I bet it just is a mismatched tag (probably from factory too. Who knows). As dad was saying, he's driven the truck 300 miles round trip in 4wd during snow once and it hasn't blown up. So I would expect it to have done so between 1989 and now
  21. Walter Joy

    Gear Ratio mismatched

Yet the odd thing is it seems alright when in 4wd (or I think. The light doesn't come on so either it's blown or something else)
  22. Walter Joy

    Gear Ratio mismatched

I will try that the next time we have the front jacked up (replacing the brakes now). The build sheet said it should have 4.10 and I assume it means front and rear. Just seems odd. The build sheet also specified I had 12x2.5 rear drums but when we measured them (after buying all the stuff for...

    Gear Ratio mismatched

My first ever thread, so I hope it's a good one. I'm a teenager who has a fair bit of knowledge of mechanics and cars, and has been gifted with a 1989 Dodge W250 that has been in the family since 1992. I have just started working on the truck this past week with my family in order to get it on...
